Hello fellow cat lovers. I have a 2 and a half yr old Siamese cat that just had her first litter about 5 weeks ago and I began the weaning
Process about a week ago. Since then she has refused to eat her regular cat food or the soft cat food or anymore treats. She no longer drinks water from her bowl but waits till someone runs the water in the sink or tub. This is so unlike Isis, and she isn't my cat but my husbands but I hate to see any animal suffer. She is getting thinner by the day. It's been about 2 days. I need any advice please!

The question is, if this is psychological - she get sour because you try to wean the kittens - not so common, but I dont know how you do have it in your household!

Or if it is something which a vet should look into.

Analyse, but I think a vet visit is in order.  This behavior is NOT  the usual.

May she be depressed??

This with her waiting till someone runs water.  Its rather typical.  Running water IS more interesting for many.  So do it for her at this moment.  A little later on you can perhaps get her a water fountain.  Doesnt costs much, but helps many cats to drink enough with water.

During the time, you shall of course try to get her to eat.  Almost any food, as long as she eats it.  For the time being, forget if it is top notch healthy or nourishing, as long it isnt harmful and she eats, let her eat this.

Otherwise, if it doesnt help, you must probably begin and forcefeed her.  Make sure you know how to do it.  And do it.   Time is running.

Goat milk is never wrong to try with.  Fresh if you can get it, bottled otherwisie.   You can have raw egg yolk in it too...    Or mix in a mixer some nice canned cat food, and using a syringe, you forcefeed...

Some nice probiotic...

End of message for this time.

Good luck!

Why was it decided to wean the kittens at 4 weeks? Is there a health problem with mom? Did she stop producing milk? It is best (aside from medical reasons) that kittens be allowed to nurse until 8 weeks (some go longer...upwards of 12 weeks or more if momma allows.)

I would have mom vet checked to make sure there isn't anything medically wrong, though I do suspect depression is playing a role.
