A stray cat found its way to our door step about a week ago. It is obviously sick, runny nose, congestion the whole nine yards. It is more than likely she is suffering a URI. The unfortunate thing is that I can not afford a vet right now. I have been giving her weening formula and a small doses of echinacea in her soft food. She has an appetite and wants to eat and just sits by her bowl. As of lately she cannot breath while she tries to eat and so she stops and I feed her then with a medicine dropper syringe. Wait there is more I have five adult cats of my own and now one of them has licked her nose bloody and is drooling. My concern is whether or not she has caught the infection of the kitten or if she has something different all together. Just looking for a bit of advice till I can get them to the vet. Right now I have them quarantined away from each other and my other cats.

Oh and I should mention the stray is actually a kitten that may be at most 6 weeks. My adults cats are 2 and 3 years old.

Warming her food will help, the more smell it has the more likely the kitten will be to try to taste it on her own. I wouldn't microwave it, but instead microwave a small container of water, once hot, set the container of replacement milk in the hot water until it is warmed.

Lysine is very helpful with URI's also, but Im not positive in using it in a kitten so small... it is just an amino acid and any excess leaves the body in urine, so i would think it would be fine

I would have any new cats coming in immediately tested for felv/fiv. Those are virus' you do NOT want your other cats catching if you can help it at all.

Thanks soo much for the advice.... It is not that she does not want to eat... She tries but can't breathe since she has to breathe mostly through her mouth... So she will just sit by her food bowl and wait for me to feed her with a syringe... I think we can keep her hydrated and fed till the vet ... But now I am concerned about my older cat as well ... She has licked her nose now till it bleeds and continues to do so and is drooling :(... I do have lysine chews but the kitten won't touch them ... I will be giving them to my older cat and pray they help her ... The kitten has a puffy eye as well that I have been starting chamomile compresses and will start cleaning the with a very diluted apple cider vinager ... I am doin the best I can with limited funds and any responsible and knowledgeable advice will help ... Once again thank you!!
