My 1 and a half year old male kitty is healthy (unlike his "sister"), and I would like to keep him that way. I feed him a couple of different high quality dry (IMO) foods, and I do feed him some canned as well. So far, so good. He is healthy and has a shiny plush coat. I know that he needs more moisture and should eat more canned. The problem is that he LOVES his kibble and is addicted to it. The only canned food that he seems to like is the Wellness sliced salmon. He will not eat pate and turns his nose up at the canned poultry varieties that I have offered too. I have never offered him any other fish because I am afraid of the mercury. Although the sliced salmon is the only wet that he does eat, he does not eat very much of it because he fills up on dry. This is probably my fault because I only started giving him canned food regularly about 6 months ago.

The dry food he eats has better proteins--turkey and duck. The canned salmon has fish, which is supposed to be not so good for male cats, but, like I said, it is the only wet that he will eat.

Which is the lesser of two evils--the dry food with the better proteins or the canned food with fish? I have heard that salmon may have less toxins than other fish. Is this true? I am not sure if Wellness uses farm-raised or wild caught salmon.

I would not feed Salmon to my pet because most Salmon is farmed and full of antibiotics. Good Salmon is next to impossible to find for humans "wild caught" and well over 20 a lb. They won't be putting that in cat food.

You have to stop free feeding only timed feedings slowly reducing dry and increasing wet. At the end only a few bits of dry sprinkled on top and HE WILL eat other Proteins. It's like kids, if they can have frys or chocolate they will not eat their dinner.
Boy cats need wet to avoid urinary expensive issues later on.

The lesser of the 2 evils is canned fish. I wouldn't feed a male kitten dry food if you paid me.

You will need to get the kibble out of your house though. As long as he can smell it - and he will if its in the cupboard - he will hold out for it.

Many of the canned poultry flavors still also put fish in them which might be good for this cat. U need to read the ingredients.

Natural balance ultra has some fish oil in it but little fish.
