JC doesn't qualify as a "lap cat", although he is very affectionate. He loves to play "fur collar" (and as a result I have spinal problems - 13.5 lbs. of cat hanging around your neck isn't good for your back!), cleans our ears every day, and makes a habit out of "bumping" foreheads. Lately he has added a new twist to being affectionate. I have very thick, extremely curly hair, which I've worn very short for decades just to keep it under control. A couple of months ago I decided I needed a change, and let my hair grow, then got it thinned out a bit. I now have ringlets to just above my shoulders (I'm in my mid-forties, so shoulder-length is the absolute maximum, IMO). Jamie now spends about an hour every morning wrapped around my shoulders, running his claws through my hair, while I get dressed, put my make-up on, clean his litterbox, feed him, change the water in his bowls, eat breakfast and read the headlines. He spends roughly another hour every day, in short doses, "combing" my hair with his claws. Last night he "combed" me for 2 - 3 hours, so I didn't get much sleep. I figure I'm "mommy cat", and running his claws through my hair reassures him, but I wonder if other cats do the same thing? Do any of you have cats with hair or curl fixations?
