I just adopted a stray kitten (about 6 weeks) little Pierre brought some little friends with him. Fleas! My vet says he's too little for those spot on remedies which I've heard horror stories about. Any ideas?

Aw bless you for saving this little one. Here is an article with great info. on treating kittens with fleas. http://www.thecatsite.com/a/how-to-treat-fleas-in-young-kittens
You can also give him a bath using diluted dawn detergent (about a tablespoon in 8 ounces of water) and add in about 10 drops of Anise Extract. It will kill the fleas instantly and is very safe for kittens. You can put a drop of mineral oil in the kittens eyes to keep the soap out and from hurting babies eyes. Put a little cotton ball in each ear too if you can. Start around the neck with the bath because the fleas will run to the head/ears.
