sorry for probably the millionth thread of this nature.

i've got two orange boys, three and a half years old or so. we used to feed them only dry with a can or two of wet a week, until one of them got blocked and had stones two months ago, so now we've switched their diet to wet ONLY. they currently enjoy trader joe's turkey and giblets - seemed like a great alternative to the ultra expensive stuff and had good quality ingredients without breaking the bank. great reviews too (from this site!).

i split a 5.5 oz can between the two around 6am (around 180 calories per can) and split another around 6pm. i'm wondering if that is enough? the guy with the blockage was SLIGHTLY overweight before, but i think they've both slimmed down a bit. thing is, i don't know if i'm not feeding them enough though, because they go bonkers when it's feeding time, waking us up early on weekends and stuff like that! and i don't know how slim is too slim.

should i supplement the wet food with dry, and just leave a little bit out during the day? or would that be a bad idea? part of me worries about days where the wife and i aren't home and can't stick to our usual wet food schedule.

thanks for the help!

Well, I can't say for your cats, but I can share what my vet suggested for our cats. I have 3 cats. 2 average size, 1 a bit skinny (had crystals too). The vet suggests 1/2 of the 5.5oz can per cat, 2x a day. So exactly what you said. My parents have their mom, who is quite overweight. We're not sure why, but she was eating 1/2 wet & 1/2 dry up until she had stones also. To help her lose weight, the vet suggested feeding her only wet with the same schedule. 1/2 a 5.5oz can in the morning, the other 1/2 at night. So, that seems to be the maintenance schedule for them. Of course, you could ask your vet what they suggest for your particular kitty.

Normally a 5.5 oz can per can is about right, but it truly depends on the amount of calories in the can, the size of the cat, and how active they are.  If these boys are pretty active, they might need a little more.  Or ONE might need a little more, and the other might not
