Yes I know...it's technically Tuesday for most all of us...  But just in case someone was just dying for me to ask a question today.... I'm posting one!

When was the last time you called out sick from work or another commitment?

I think for me it was from my job in 2007.  After that i worked for such small employers that I couldn't easily call out.  I also didn't get anything bad enough to warrant it.

Being a stay-at-home mom means I can't really "call out" of anything much.  I'm dealing with some sort of virus now.  For the past couple of weeks my 2 kids and i have taken turns being sick.  I'm on time #2 so this just doesn't seem fair.  But I've been way sicker before.  And less sick.  The fact that I just don't feel good is bothering me more than my cough and sometimes sexy voice.
We missed church yesterday because DD and I were both still running temperatures.  Then I decided to put some butter and honey on a leftover bisquit from Bob Evans.  I ate half and my mouth, tongue and lip started itching!  I possibly over-reacted by taking 2 benadryl instead of just 1.  It was calming down before the Benadryl had time to kick in.
I went to bed right after my kids and slept for 11 hours!!  I guess I needed it?
The daytime didn't leave me much time to rest so it's good I got it when I could!  DH is using up some extra days off of work this week; so he was here for the kids' at breakfast at least.   Then he had appointments and I met him with the kids to do some fun things.  We got home a bit late.

So in a nutshell; this is why I did not post  a question earlier today.

I'm glad you're doing better today! When my lip stars to itch like that, I know that, within the next hour or so, it will then start to swell. I've found out that Benedryl is my friend (only I just take one tab
). That's how they figured out that my allergy to OTC pain meds was really an allergy....Benedryl works beautifully. Fast, too. Since I have trouble sleeping, the doctor who sees me for my migraines told me that I could take a Benedryl on nights when I simply cannot sleep because the migraine is too bad, BUT not to make it a habit. I haven't done it.

Anyway, I'm digressing. Sorry.

I was off work the week before last for sickness. I brought back a terrible cold from Vermont, came home from work that Thursday morning and stayed off work on Friday. We get paid when we have to take sick days and I try not to take advantage of it. But sick is sick. (I do confess to a Mental Health Day on occasion, maybe twice a year).

I will tell you that, when Banshee was alive, I always took off work on Sept 20, Banshee's birthday. In her 14 years, I only missed one year. When I was being interviewed for this job, my boss asked me if I had any questions or comments and I said, "I need Sept 20th off work every year. It's my cat's birthday." He laughed like crazy. I smiled....but I was serious. He hired me anyway. And that first year when Sept 20 rolled around, he came to me and said, "You need a vacation day for the 20th?" I said, "Yes, please." And I was home with her every year. The first year after she died, it was strange coming to work on her birthday. I've never done that for any other cat. But Banshee was my special girl.

oh Canada~
I can imagine being the parent of young children, not only do you not get to call in sick, but more often than not they're the ones bringing home the bugs you get hit with!

I called into work ONCE 7 years ago, on my second shift because I had laryngitis (working at a coffee shop). I had to pay $10 for a doctor's note. Since then, I have never taken a sick day. I joked that at my last job, we had so many sick days that we should just "use" them before the end of the year, or I could sell them since I had all 10 and some people were approaching their 20th but between the money I'd be losing and the idea of being an unreliable worker prevented me from doing any of that nonsense.
Colds and fevers don't stop me, and I think I've only had the stomach flu once or twice when I was younger.

Today.

Migraine :(

and tomorrow also, I have my boiler being replaced.

I'm cautious with the days off other than vacations but sometimes, things just happen and they have to be taken care of be it yourself, or life in general.

I'm lucky that I work for extremely understanding people.  And, that I'm the HR person so there aren't too many people over me I have to answer to LOL

Lesson learned with the benadryl!
I usually only take it when my husband is off work the next day.  I know how sleepy I get and I'm always afraid I won't hear the kids during the night.  My husband slept with the baby monitor on his side of the bed the other night.  Normally I go to bed hours after him; but that night I was passed out cold before he came to bed!

When I left that job in 2007 (laid off) I had 4 weeks of sick time saved up.  My boss had the nerve to ask me to donate some of it to her maternity leave!!  (I think we could only donate a weeks time.)  I sent my "donation" to one of the staff at another office who had already been out 6 weeks with a chronic illness.

My husband has the option of "bidding" his sick time as extra vacation.  (Why he has time of this week.)  He almost never calls out of work; so we figured it would be nice to have planned time off.  Then the whole house got a stomach virus and he had to use I think 3 of his days on that.  Otherwise he would have had the whole week off.  It's about to be his busy time of year; so we are enjoying this down time even if it isn't what we originally planed.
