I had never heard of this until I had open enrollment for work.  Through work it's $3.56 a pay and get 25 percent off all vet care.  Of course my vet clinic isn't on their list of vets.  I have always been suspicious of discount plans like this, I've always suspected they increase prices so people end up paying the same with or without the discount plan.  They also offer discounts on supplies and medications.

If it's legit the discount is when you pay the bill rather than having to pay the whole bill then wait for reimbursement.

The company I work for offers pet insurance, but I found it somewhat restrictive (this was four years ago, I forget why).
I did some research and decided on Petplan USA, and have been pleased with them. Premiums are somewhat pricey (around $500 a year), and I pay a $50 deductible. But peace of mind is, well, priceless.
They are pretty good about what they cover/don't cover--they paid for Ritz' dental cleaning/gingivitus and they even paid for Pill Pockets. No restriction on vets. They also pay I believe 80% for specialists, i.e., the holistic vet I keep on saying I want to take Ritz too.
