I have a (possibly) dumb question.

If my IBD cat is on a duck only diet but I feed her a canned food that has chicken fat in it, is it okay? Duck is the first and only meat listed. I am asking because she hates pâté foods, and that is what all of the LID canned duck foods seem to be. I was excited to find on chewy.com that Canidae Pure actually has a SLICED grain-free duck food, but it does have the chicken fat. Is chicken fat actually considered "meat"? I do not know if chicken is actually an issue for her or not. The vet said to keep her on the dry LID duck diet, which has been working until recently, but she is back to vomiting a few times a week. I think that the dry food may be too harsh on her stomach, but the vet will probably not agree with me. She thinks that the dry is better.

I have a colitis kitty and I would call your vet before adding to her diet.  My kitty is very sensitive to any diet changes. If she has begun vomiting again maybe there is further workup needed. They could have a RX wet food for her that she would not react to. My kitty does good with lamb.

I do plan to ask the vet first. Some of those prescription foods make me shudder with the awful ingredients that are in them. I think life would be a lot easier if my cat would just like what I want her to like and eat the wet LID food. Is that too much to ask?

I totally agree!!! Mine gets in crisis, the foods he loves make him sicker. I did not like the ingredients either, but I had him on steroids, antibiotics and an appetite stimulators. The RX med got his colon calmed down enough so he would eat, drink and not hide. He loves Wellness, but there is something in it that irritates him. He loves the Canidae lamb and has not had any problems with it. I tried the Instinct Duck and Lamb, but they are pate and he will not touch them.  I tried Instinct Pride Duck and Lamb (more chunky), he wont eat them.  They have a lot of different vegetables in them, I think that is why he wont eat them.
