Hello,

My cat is 1.5 years old. I came home from work and she was crying in pain. I noticed something was wrong with her right hind leg. I immediately took her to the vet. They did an X-ray and thought she may have a fracture. I was sent to a specialty hospital for a ortho surgical consult. They X-ray both legs and were identical. She was malnourished as a kitten and she has issues with his growth plates as well as right hip arthritis. At the emergency hospital the vet noted a grade 2 heart murmur. I recently had a cat die suddenly from HCM so I am hypersensitive to cardiac issues. They did a Doppler ultrasound of her abdomen/pelvic and saw blood flow to both legs. They said this however does not rule out a small clot. I took her home and she was still in pain and ended up going back to the ER. The emergency vet said her feet were warm and could feel pulses, she said they are looking into a clot simply because of the new heart murmur. My previous kitty with HCM died suddenly 6 weeks ago from a heart rhythm disturbance. I have no experience with blood clots or saddle thrombosis. I just wish the vet could tell me with certainty if it was a soft tissue injury or a blood clot. She has been eating and drinking today, however she is very hesitant to stand and put weight on her rear right leg. I keep checking her feet and they are warm. She is also taking pain medication. She will walk short distances and lay down. I'm very worried she may have a small clot and I'm not doing anything more. If you have any advice please let me know.

No advise on this, just that is your little one is already known to have arthritis in her right hip, couldn't that be the issue?

Is there any reason at all to suspect that a grade 2 heart murmur would result in a Saddle Thrombosis?  I've not heard of that.  I thought a Saddle Thrombosis could happen to any cat, any time, which is always scary, but something we simply cannot dwell on, because it really is pretty rare.

I'm so sorry you lost your other furbaby recently, and know that something like that always puts you on high alert
.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not dismissing that there could be something wrong other than the arthritis, but at this point, I think you can only go with what the doctors are telling you.  What are they advising...basically wait and see?  Are they doing anything to help with the arthritis on a go forward basis?  Perhaps Cosequin or Dasaquin, Krill Oil, or what?

Hello

Thank you for your response. They did several X-rays and did not see a fracture. They did see arthritis in her right hip which they said was unusual as she is only 1 year old. The ER vet heard a grade 2 heart murmur, so they would like a follow up with the cardiologist. They did not feel it was a clot, but said it cannot be ruled out. They did an ultrasound of her abdomen and pelvis and saw good blood flow. The reason they are saying it could possibly be a clot is solely because of the heart murmur. You are right, I am very hypersensitive as my 2 year old cat died suddenly from heart disease 6 weeks ago. I have an echo of her heart scheduled next week. I am just worried she had a small clot. The vets say it is unlikely but is a possibility. She is walking a bit better today but she isn't herself.

Hello, my cat just survive not sure of 1st or 2nd episode of saddle thrombosis, he is 12 years old and the diagnosis was hard, if anyone can help me as he is paralyzed from the hind legs, I am afraid he has another episode.
It has been such a horrible week because I thought I'd lose him, here the MRI results.
Any information would be so helpful, I have not seen activity on this forum, I hope I am lucky.
Thank you all
