Hello-

Our two year old cat, Buster has always been healthy and with no behavioral problems, until he started urinating around the house. We took him to the Vet and sure enough he had a UTI with crystals.

While treating him with antibiotics and special food for the crystals, we kept him isolated in a small bathroom on the main floor so that we could monitor his output to watch for blockage.

After about a week, we let him out. He seemed to be doing fine and was not urinating around the house, and was still using the temporary box in the bathroom even though their regular boxes are in the basement where we also feed them. (We have one other cat too)

When we decided he was going to be OK, we removed the box from the bathroom. He seemed upset about this and soon began urinating around the house again and won't use the regular boxes down stairs.

I just got back from the Vet and he said he has changed his preference to the bathroom and there was probably no changing him back and we should just put the box back in the bathroom. BTW, his infection and the crystals are gone and his urine is normal.

This is the only bathroom on the main floor and is so small that putting a box in there renders it unusable. Can anyone give me any ideas on how to get him to use the basement boxes again?

Any help would be appreciated.

Dave

you need one box per cat per floor plus one.
