Curious about unusual color

I'm interested in opinions on what breeds my adopted, supposedly "formerly feral" 16-pound snuggly tomcat may have in him. He's got a tipped coat, which I heard was unusual for mixed breeds, and he has quite the grumpy face. His head is fairly square but his snout is not squished like a Perisan at all. He does have some asthma/bronchial problems as well. Thanks!

PS. Not to worry, he's only allowed in our apartment's courtyard with supervision. Also, he's much too timid to venture more than 10 feet from our front door. :)

Thank you! I couldn't believe he was in the shelter for so long. I think too many shy cats get labeled as "feral". :(

He's gorgeous, I love that soft charcoal-shaded look! So nice that you get to snuggle with him, it would be a waste of such a huge and fluffy kitty otherwise! :lol3:
With his size and long hair, perhaps he has some Maine Coon in his background?

I myself think more on the Norwegian Forest Cat, at least in the pic from forrard.

From the aside pic his muzzle is somewhat shortish for a perfect Weggie...

Nice chap, wonderful you found each other!

I have no idea about breeds, but just thought I'd echo everyone else, what a beautiful looking cat!

I was also thinking Maine Coon/Norweigan Forest due to his body size but he doesn't have the ear tufts and he has the short muzzle. I just can't find a breed with a short snout or the sad face that makes sense and it's making me a little nuts!  If you experts on this forum don't know, I'm probably just out of luck. But thanks for the input! :)

Actually, I looked at more pics of the Norweigan Forest Cat, and I think you're right. He's not quite as long haired and doesn't have the mane around the neck but there seem to be quite a few with his coloring. Thanks!
