Help!!!! What do I do? Okay, my friend who lives in my neighborhood has been telling me about a cat that is always outside no matter what. If it's raining, really cold, they don't even let her in at night. We assume they don't feed her and she must catch mice for food. No access to fresh or really any water. The neighbor is almost never home, and we can't just take the cat because our parents won't let us have a cat. Also, she has a collar with her name and address, so it would be stealing. And halloween is coming up and I know people sacrifice cats that night so I don't want her to be left unsupervised! There is also coyotes, foxes, and raccoons in the woods behind her owners home. Again, I can't talk to the neighbor, or leave a note because he is never home. I think he's in his twenties and he's really scary. The only reason he has a cat is because his mom rescued it and then she had to move to England to take care of her own mom. She couldn't take the cat with her. Also, what can I feed her that is safe?

I am so sad to hear this and so grateful that you and your friend care. Honestly, I can't tell you what to do, but if it were me, I would take the kitty to a safe place. It sounds like the cat's true owner has left the country and now the cat is in great need of a loving home and care. Obviously, the owner's son does not care about the cat and honestly, probably would not mind in the least if you contacted him about the cat or left a note. You could also contact the local humane society and tell them of the situation. The cat sounds very, very neglected. BTW. Collars do fall off. (hint) And, I assume the cat is not microchipped either. With that bad weather coming, Halloween, etc. etc., now is the time to find a safe place for this poor kitty. You could feed the cat any type of cat food. Canned would be best. Any canned food. Bless your heart for caring. I have been in your shoes before with situations such as these but I have to be careful as to how far to tell you to go.

I also think that by contacting this guy, hopefully, you may be surprised that he may be willing to (more than willing) for someone to take the cat indoors and give this kitty a good/safe life. You could leave a note an dif he doesn not call/respond then you have your answer that he probably would not care one ioda about this poor kitty. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Thank you feralvr! I think I'll leave a note on the door, mentioning halloween. If he doesn't take her in on halloween, me and my friend will hand out candy and try and keep an eye on her. I am just a little afraid if it turns out he doesn't care and we contact the animal shelter, that she may be euthanized due to lack of space or nobody wanting her, etc. and I couldn't live with myself if that happened to her because she is so sweet. But I'll update if anything else happens. Thanks again!

LOVE feralvr's post!

Just wanted to add in, you can always put a cozy warm spot for her to get out of the cold when she needs to at your friends house, and also supply food for her there too.

That way you know she has what she needs at least.

I can see the scenario now, mom is leaving for Europe and needs her son to take the kitty, he does but is not thrilled about it, so she is out there pretty much on her own.

He would possibly be happy to let her go to you, but unless you are wanting to keep and take care of her, then I would leave it as it is, but make a spot for her, a dog carrier with warmth inside, etc.

Love that you care about this poor kitty :)

I see future fellow cat rescuers in the making!

Please do keep us posted on if he responds to your note as he may surprise you and be quite nice about it. :cross:

Excellent idea from Catwoman. I am going to post a link about how to make your own winter cat shelter. If you place food near the shelter as well, then this cat will have a safe place to stay warm and eat on a regular basis. http://www.urbancatleague.org/WinterCatShelters and this one http://alleycatadvocates.org/resources/creating-winter-shelters/

I know there is a concern about the humane society and euthanasia but usually that is not always the case especially if the cat is sweet and friendly. Sometimes it is a tough call but if you see the cat suffering outdoors, becoming ill and thin and possibly in danger for it's life then I have to weigh on the side of the shelter/human society as it's best chance for survival.

Your doing a great job and who knows.......... maybe you or your friend may be able to take in this cat OR can find another home for this poor outdoor kitty. Thanks SOOOOO very much for your work and compassion to aid this little feline. :rub: :greenpaw:

Update: my friends parents have talked to the owner and he says he will start to take her in at night and when it gets colder! Mission accomplished! He will also start feeding and giving water to her. Thank you all so much for your help.

That is great news!!! How nice of your friend's parents to contact the owner and now you can rest easy. Seems that he does care and want to do right by the cat but I have a feeling you and your friend will still be on the lookout. ;) :hugs:
