Scrappy kitty, doesn't get along with my two other cats

I have 3 cats - two are siblings, a brother and a sister who get along perfectly, Zazi and Zoe. They are 3 now. Last year, I took in a stray kitten that someone had abandoned in the rain, and he is our 3rd baby now, Bunny, he's a year old. All 3 have been neutered. We live in an apartment that has ample space to run in and their own bathroom.

They are not aggressive with each other generally. However, Bunny has always been a little scrapper, he loves to play and gets a little rough when playing. Zoe does not put up with it at all, and she is the only living thing Bunny is scared of, so he doesn't approach her.

Zazi is a big cat, but if Bunny is trying to scrap with him, Zazi will hiss and run away. Sometimes they cuddle and fall asleep together, but when they are awake, now Zazi and Zoe tend to avoid/ignore Bunny.

It breaks my heart to see him left out like this, and I'm not sure what to do. It is I think affecting Bunny's behavior a bit too - he is more anxious, tends to have "accidents" on rugs, anything new and piles of laundry, and makes these weird growly noises while running around. Could these be attention-seeking moves?

None of them are lap cats, and do not appreciate being cuddled. If they sit near you, you have their permission to stroke them, but holding, picking them up etc. is only tolerated.

I got Feliway with Comfort spray in the hopes that it would mellow them out, but it doesn't look like it's working. I'm not sure what to do anymore.

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated - thank you in advance.

@Anju

Your older cats not getting along with Bunny..is this something new and recent?

From what you described, i would think that bunny needs to see a vet, he may have an illness that's causing him to urinate outside the litter box, and that could also cause the other two cats to be aggressive towards him. Cats can sense illness in other cats and tend to avoid sick animals. Please take Bunny to the vet as soon as possible to rule out any medical reasons why bunny is urinating outside of the box..

Also, with 3 cats in the home, it would be ideal to have at least 3 or 4 litter boxes for them to use, and cleaning them daily is needed. Cats don't like using a dirty litter box, and if you have only 1 box for 3 cats, that means the litter box must be dirty often. A dirty litter box will turn a cat away from the litter box and may lead him to urinate outside of the box.

Since Zazi and Zoe are older, their energy levels may not be the same anymore as Bunny's is. One way to make sure Bunny gets the playtime and attention he deserves is to play with him yourself, using cat toys. Just a play session between you and Bunny. This way, Bunny won't be pestering Zazi and Zoe constantly for play. The pestering i imagine is stressful not only for Zazi and Zoe, but also for bunny.

Good Luck

Hi Lamiatron,

No, it isn't a recent thing - it has sort of built up over the past months, as he's gotten bigger and stronger.

And the three of them don't fight, it's more that the older two ignore him, and because he plays rough AND now that he's really big, they hiss and run if he tries to play with them. They have no problems sitting or cuddling together, sharing the same food bowl/water bowl etc.

Bunny had a tummy problem a month ago (diarrhoea), and that was the last vet visit - the meds worked and now he's back to being his normal, healthy self.

His peeing issue existed ever since the beginning, since we got him home - that isn't a new thing either. It's just a Bunny thing that we are really, really trying to turn around  - it's an occasional thing, not an everyday occurrence. It's almost as if he's trying to get attention for something, but we possibly can't give him any more attention.
We're home (at least one of us) all the time, play with him, feed him and pet him - so I'm not sure what more to do. I just want all of them to be relaxed with each other, and Bunny to stop playing so rough/being so hyper.

i'm assuming your vet has then ruled out UTI

when Bunny pees outside the box, do you clean with a special or enzymatic cleaner? special cleaners need to be used to completely remove animal waste so that it doesn't leave behind any scent. if even the faintest scent is left behind, bunny will most likely go again in that same place.

one way to help bunny use all his extra energy is to play with him yourself. away from the other two cats. you an interactive cat toy, or a laser pointer and have him run around and chase it

make sure to have multiple boxes in the home, and that they are cleaned at least once a day. That should help. I hope others chime in with more advice for you

Yes, there is no indication of a UTI. And yes, I do clean up his messes with Simple Solution - he does not go in the same place more than once. It is sort of like an impulse, because if you come across him pawing at something before he does his business, and say his name, he'll turn and run to his bathroom.

I have 6 trays in the bathroom for them, they are cleaned everyday. At one point, I even tried changing to a separate room to keep Bunny's trays, but that didn't have any effect.

The suggestion to play with him alone is interesting, I'll try that - I usually play with all 3, with a chase or string toy, and they all chase it and have fun. Thanks for your suggestions!

Hmmm.

The 6 trays are all in one place? maybe you can try switching them around, put them in different areas of the house..and in a couple (2) of them, try adding cat attract herbs (these can be found in petsmart or petco) or cat attract litter. This should attract bunny to use the litter box when he needs to go. I wonder if he is urinating as a way to leave his scent in certain areas of the home...? try the litter thing...and try to spend more time with him, just one on one, without the other cats involved...his peeing could be an insecurity thing, if its not related to his health or lack of litter boxes...although i'm not too knowledgeable on this to be honest. I have a cat, Charlie, who from time to time get aggressive when he feels insecure, but he never peed outside of the box..
