We have a 6 month old kitten who i think is in heat now, we have a vet apt to get her fixed very soon but a question i have is that she is not eating, does anyone know if this is a normal behavior for her or should i be getting to the vet?

Welcome to The Cat Site.Is she 100% not eating or just eating much less? If not eating at all, then she may be at risk for fatty liver disease; given how young she is, I'd be a little concerned.
I'd call the vet for advice, and ask if you can move up the spay date.
I was helping (a little) fostering a cat who we could not get spayed for several weeks. She went in and out of heat it seemed every five days. She lost a fair amount of weight, although I think she was still eating somewhat.

she is eating a very small amount of dry food, she is basically moping around and not acting at all like when we first brought her home as a foster, i was unsure with this being her first time in heat that she doesn't know what is going on with her body ( i know that sounds funny ) but true , i did ask the vet they said monitor her and if she is not eating at all they would fit her in sooner

Sounds like the cat I helped foster (Princess Leia). I like (agree with) what your vet said.
Watch for further decrease in eating--spay asap.

The kitten that i was asking about and thought was in heat, i ended up taking to the vet and sadly they said she had distemper, that even though she was vaccinated against it, she was already infected so the shot did no good, she was only 5 months old and the sweetest girl,, she fit right into our house hold and is sorely missed, when i took her to the vet they could tell right away that she was not doing good at all, so they did some blood work that come back positive that she had distemper , i asked if i had not brought her in that day what would of happened to her, he said she would of died sometime that day anyway so i decided just to have her put to sleep right there so she wouldn't have to suffer anymore

I'm so sorry for your loss, you did everything you were supposed to do but sadly it wasn't enough. I take it she did not receive her kitten shots? I just ask because I don't know if you can still get the disease after those first ones. Six months old is way too young to die, my heart breaks for the loss. Please accept my condolences and I pray that nasty disease can one day be conquered. Bless you for caring so much, take care...... RIP beautiful little one, you will be remembered!

Thank You so much for your kind words and sweet thoughts, brought tears to my eyes, she was given the distemper shot when she first got to the shelter but they said that if she was already infected before getting the shot , the shot would do nothing for her, this is our first time fostering then adopting a kitten, i have heard of distemper before but was not really aware of the seriousness of this disease, so my recommendation for anyone who is fostering or about to foster or adopt a kitten make sure among the other shots they need to make sure they get a distemper shot

I am so sorry for your loss.  That was really unexpected!  I hope you do find some comfort in knowing that you were able to help ease her suffering and show her love in her short life.
