For the past month or so, I've noticed Lucy has a harder time jumping into window sills, beds, etc. Her back end seems to not want to follow her as easily. She's a tad pudgy so I chalked it up to that and/or maybe some arthritis (she is about 10). This past weekend, we went up north. We got home last night and noticed Lucy, who always LOVES to be brushed, scratched (instant purr machine) was snapping at the brush. Now this morning, while I was petting her at the sides of her legs while she was laying on me, she'd quckly turn her head and lick me (an agressive reaction). When I scratched/pat near her tail on her back, she'd agressive start biting at her paws (the biting they do while bathing). When I stopped, she continued to simply lick her paws...but if I did it again, the biting started up. She's a little more vocal, too...I came home and she was laying in my spot on the bed. When I walked over to her and touched her, she meowed. It was a typical one..as if she's "talking" when I open a can of food...but she never does this unless there is a reason. She is a quiet cat.

She is still eating, laying on me (favorite thing to do), etc, but this is concerning.

Looking for input while awaiting a vet visit.

Thx!

At age 10, and especially if she's a tad pudgy, she could definitely have some arthritis.  There are OTC "remedies" for this, or if it's advances, your Vet may want to prescribe some true pain killers, once you get a  true diagnosis.  If you go with the OTC remedies, you could start with Cosequin or Dasequin.  I used Cosequin on my old guy, and it really did seem to help.  It's similar to Condroitin/Glucosimine for humans, only it's chicken/fish flavored in a capsule that you can sprinkle on their food.

Thank you! Vet thinks she does have some arthritis in one knee, but suggested flea allergies for the reaction with licking/biting. Funny enough, as much combing and brushing as I do, I haven't seen any evidence, but leave it to the vet to find one! [emoji]128576[/emoji] only could find one and only a small amount of dirt, but I'm sure there is more...maybe a newly acquired thing? Treated her and Sally...also suggested to reduce food by 20% [emoji]128576[/emoji] (going to be one unhappy feline!) to see if it helps (weight loss). He said the Cosequin may help symptoms but won't take away the cause (her weight...if only it were that easy!).

Thx for the reply! [emoji]128570[/emoji]
