Hello to everyone,
I really hope someone out there can tell me how to handle this issue.
Here are the details:
First I brought home my siamese male kitten. There was no problem with cleansiness. He is castrated and is now 1 year old. He used to sleep in bed with us and was always clean. His litter box was on another floor, in the bathroom of the build out attick. He always went upstairs without a problem.
When he was about 6 months old, we brought home a puppy German Shepherd. There was no problem with that either.
But then....about 3 months ago we found a lost kitten and decided to adopt her. In the meantime she is also sterilized. She too used the litter box on the other floor.
We added, however, a third litterbox on our floor, so that the little one will not have accidents (this is what the vet recommended to us)
The siamese suddenly started peeing in our bed. But that stopped again after he got used to the newcomer.
However, because we noticed that it was impossible to sleep anymore, as the younger cat does NOT sleep during the night, we decided to let both of them sleep the night on the top floor.
Both cats get along very well, the little stray one now thinking she is a siamese and copying exactly his behaviour. He is gentle and loving cat, and so is she. So all that went well. Each morning I open the door and they come flying down the stairs and used to immediately use the litter box on our floor and had barely used the litter box on the top floor, Already that, I could not really understand.
They also both immediately drink out of the water bowls available for them on our floor and had only barely touched the water on 'their' floor.
So, now we thought it is time to take the litter box on our floor away and let them get used to really only use the litter boxes on the top floor. The little newcomer can now hold herself long enough to climb the 7 steps...
BUT, now comes a new disaster. Now when I open the door in the morning and they come flying down the steps, they jump onto the bed and BOTH pee onto it :-(
Sorry for you to have to read so much, but the details were important.
They do use the litter box on the top floor. But when they are on our floor, they search for the bed in case of pee need....
What should I do now? Take one litter box back to our floor?
I am sure I made some mistakes, but I surely wish I can fix them now.
Any ideas?
Thanks so much for all your help in advance and very nice regards from Belgium
