An question in homage to the late John Pinette, one of my favourite comedians:

If there was one food (fruit, vegetable, meat, condiment, or even a prepared dish, anything) you could banish from the face of the earth, what would it be?

Table sugar-yes I know the sugar in fruit is essentially the same and no one in this world loves sugar more than me however, it is very unhealthy.  Second would be white refined flour-yes I love that too- but it is nutritionally devoid of nutrients and down right harmful.

Funny you would mention sugar - just this morning, I saw someone on my Facebook feed "like" an old article (or maybe a new one on the same issue) where a family took a year of a no-sugar-added diet and by the end, their palettes had changed so much that even their once monthly treat of a sugar-added food became overwhelming and nearly disgusting. I'm really intrigued with it, but especially living with my boyfriend (someone who frequently adds a tiny bit of water to powdered icing sugar or those drink crystals and eats it with a spoon) I don't think I would be able to resist the temptation.

I think I would get rid of olives. They're not harmful like the above mentioned, so this is honestly pure selfishness, but I just don't like them. I could even do fine without olive oil and other byproducts. Coconut oil gets me by fine in its place.

There are actually several but for me it would be any kind of liver and oysters.  I am more turned off by certain textures than by flavors.  Of course the kitties need liver as part of their diet so I guess I would go with oysters.

High fructose corn syrup.
Ditto.

It's in freaking everything practically.  I'm a big label reader and it's one of those ingredients I'll put the item down and look for another over.

That' and carageenan.  FFS why is this being put into so many foods suddenly, or am I just noticing it?  My fav grocery store (Wegman's), which touts itself as being fairly health friendly, uses it in a wide variety of their house brands, most notably ice cream to help thicken it.  Why? Isn't ice cream already plenty thick?

Is it true ice cream or is it a frozen dessert?
Frozen desserts are cheaper to make, more profitable to sell, and aren't the true thickness or fat of ice cream because it's more frozen, thickened sweet milk than anything.

Says ice cream on the container.  But, who knows?  Under the explanation you offer, it would indeed sound like it isn't an "ice cream" per se.

I don't buy it.  I rarely eat ice cream and if I'm going to I want the best possible with the least ingredients.

@Muffy; I'm curious, what would your stance be on pet foods? How would you/we feed our carnivores? "Animal" is a very, very broad category - does this include insects?
