My Louie Bear had loose, yellowish stools from the day I adopted him as a four month old kitten but only showed diarrhea with blood when he was about nine months old. He'd had worms and been dewormed three times (after the shelter cleared him as 'healthy) before he was nine months old. After a battery of tests tested negative for parasites I paid an extra 200 bucks for a test for coronavirus and voila...he was positive. And infected. And this virus can mutate into FIP without warning.
So he was put on a ten day course of antibiotics, a B vitamin supplement, and Florentero for the condition. The problem cleared up, or so I thought. Since then, every three months, like clockwork, he gets blood and mucus in his stool which is sometimes found outside the box. He pulls the box away from the wall, which means he is in pain. The messes are smaller now than formerly but it's not fun chasing a Maine Coon mix around the house trying to wipe the bloody mucus off his rear end.
So Louie gets his Florentero twice a day and the B vitamins once a day. I may 'up' the dose of the latter while he is on the antibiotics.
Sam-E, his brother by another mother, has never shown symptoms and Louie otherwise appears the picture of health, eating well, playing, and being very active.
Has anyone got any suggestions on whether there are stronger probiotics, or supplements, than Floretero? The plus side is that Louie looks forward to his dose and also loves the B vitamins. It's harder to get the antibiotic pill into him but I manage with a syringe filled with water.
Louie is currently about 18 months old. This is a recent picture.
Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
