Hello everyone! My name is Shira

I just found this forum today (less than 10 minutes but shhh..)

Anyway, I don't have a cat yet my parents hate them. Actually, they hate anymals in general.

HOWEVER, I have managed to convince my mom to allow me have a cat if I find a job (Man, that took me over 3 years)

So I'm super exited! I'll have a cat sooon! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaAAAAAAaaAAaAaaaaAAaaAaaaa!!!!

My thoughts currently are to adopt a cat from a shelter, but I really like British cats too (probably won't find a young one in a shelter)
I'm leaning more towards adopting a feral, tho.

So hi there and nice meeting you!

Welcome to TCS Shira!  I'm sorry to hear that your parents aren't animal people.  Cats have a way of winning people over though.  Personally I have had a lot of luck with shelter kitties
Looking forward to hearing more about your pet search!

Congratulations on getting your dream! There are so many lost souls out there that need homes, you've got a big task in front of you. Make sure you have everything ready BEFORE you bring your baby home, like a litter box, bowls, and food. Mom and dad would NOT be impressed if the cat went on the carpet!
Get a cardboard scratcher too, those work wonders to keep them off the furniture. It's nice you would like to tame a feral, or more likely a cat that was dumped and has gone a little wild, but they take a lot of hard work and understanding, and for your first cat you might be better off with a tame one. An older one would be calm and loving most likely, a kitten is fun but boy do they have the energy and nothing is safe from them, curtains, legs, and furniture. Oh, and another thing, make sure your house is 'cat proofed', just like for a baby. Some cats chew on electrical cords, window blind cords can be deadly,  some things can be very poisonous to a cat, like Tylenol, chocolate, etc. I envy you getting a new baby, I miss all that 'new' excitement! Good luck!

Hi Shira.

Welcome to The Cat Site. So exciting that you might soon be getting your first cat! I was really lucky and grew up in a family of cat lovers, I can't imagine home without them. I'm a big fan of shelter cats too. You might be able to find a shelter that has British Short Hairs, sometimes even pedigree cats end up homeless.

Keep us posted on how it goes, if you have any questions we'll be happy to help.

Yes, I'll probably be getting my first cat in around 3 months!
I'm going to adopt it from a shelter probably. And since I have around 3 months, I got time to get ready. I am completly clueless about cats. I really don't know about the sand or how much food they can eat or what they cannot eat! Or how to tame them. Is there a guide here for new cat owners?
