Hey, I'm not sure if this is an emergency or not, hoping someone can brainstorm with me what could be going on with my cat.

So Malibu has been fine up until this afternoon. I fed him breakfast at around 10:15 am and at around 2:15 pm I heard him vomiting in the other room. I knew it was different than his usual hairball or red meat intolerance vomiting. It was extremely watery and also contained his breakfast contents. Since this happened around 45 minutes ago, I have seen him go to the water bowl and drink a good amount of water twice already, which I think is very unusual.

I am aware that cats with compromised kidneys do drink more water than usual but I don't think that's what's going on here. I monitor my cats pretty closely and the excessive water drinking has only been today. I looked around my house for something that he might have gotten into, but there is no left out food, open cabinets or plants in my house.

The food is not new and he tolerates it well. I guess the only reason I'm asking is because I have plans this evening and will be staying at a hotel in the city and won't return home until tomorrow afternoon. I just don't know if I'm overreacting right now and if I should cancel my plans or if I should wait it out.

I did give him a day-old quail chick since he threw up his breakfast (he gets one every Saturday afternoon) and about 2 minutes after he ate it, he hacked a little as if he was going to throw up but he has kept it down so far. I will also be able to feed him dinner tonight before I leave but I  won't be able to stick around to see if he throws up again.

My cat sitter will come over tomorrow morning to feed him breakfast and I will be home by noon. Do you think this could be something serious that I need to monitor tonight and cancel my plans?

I think you should watch to ensure he keeps the quail chick down and then watch his other behavior-eliminating and activity level. If he seems fine then enjoy your evening. The excessive water drinking has been one day. One day is not a pattern in medicine. After vomiting and losing fluid it is normal to want to consume water.
