My kitty was a runner before I got him about a year and a half ago.  I've been trying to train him ever since to stay indoors but it's been a struggle.

Several months ago I got a mobility scooter and he's been on it with me (indoors only).  I've been thinking that if I get a regular baby carrier - the wearable kind - I could take him outside w/o having to worry about him getting loose.

Sometimes he escapes to the inner hallway in this building that is shared with only one other neighbor.  He loves to go and say hi to her, and if he happens to get out there while I'm on the scooter, he always gets a ride back into our aparment and he loves it.

Thoughts, anyone?  Thanks!

I'm not sure what you mean by 'regular baby carrier', can you explain it to me or a link to a picture maybe?  Sometimes things are given different names in different countries.

When I said "regular" I meant carriers like the ones that mothers use to carry their infants, but on their chest.   I went to the baby department in a local store and found several in a decent price range.

When I did an internet search for wearable "pet" carriers I found several but they are much more expensive.  So, I thought a human baby carrier would be a good substitute, as long as it carries his weight.

I tried to include the link where I got this photo but it came out looking like a mess.

As long as a carrier holds more than his weight is this ok?  Do I have to be concerned about dimensions?  Like space between front and back legs.  And where would his tail go?  I know this probably sounds stupid, but  never got anything like this for him before.

I would recommend a wearable PET carrier instead. I know they are more expensive; but, the baby carriers are not meant to keep a animal confined. The baby carrier would be very easy for him to get out of should he see something he wants to chase or he gets scared (and he could do some serious damage to you in the process.). I would also suggest one of the carriers that is fully enclosed, this way you don't have to worry about him getting away from you.

I'm afraid I agree with Catpack, there would be a high risk of escape - and injury to one or both of you in the process.  Also, these baby carriers have been designed to support human anatomy and would likely be very uncomfortable for a cat.  There are some small pet carriers that are almost like small back packs with vision and breathing panels but I do appreciate what you are saying about cost and I am not sure how much they are.  I haven't used one either to know how well they work (or not).  I too would love to be able to take Mouse out with me but knowing Mouse I don't think he's as keen as me so I haven't explored it further:  he seems happy with my apartment as his territory and is very confident in his own territory but anxious if he steps out in to the entrance hallway for the building.

I appreciate everyone's input.  You made some excellent points, inc. those from a safety standpoint (mine and his) and comfort.  I will keep looking.  Perhaps I can find one on sale somewhere????

Thanks!

Keep looking for the small pet carriers.  Places like Amazon and Zooplus offer a good range and you may well find something on offer or at a good price, esp if the manufacturers are changing their range a little.

Yesterday I have spotted a small cat in a baby carrier. It looks like some kind of sling where baby faces towards abdomen. The cat was struggling in sitting there, it's four legs sticking straight out, stuffed into this baby sling thing. All I can say such carriers are made considering a small baby not a four legged pet. For pets there are particular pet carriers available in market.
