My cat has cancer and is a terror to pill orally.  Only injectable form of prednisolone is expensive, short-acting, and has limitations as to frequency of administration.  My cat is very tolerant of SQ injections.  Could I dissolve her oral prednisolone tablets in sterile water and inject them SQ?

I wouldn't ever try to dissolve an oral tablet to inject subq...

Most tablets can be dissolved and syringe fed, but keep in mind that some take more liquid to dissolve than others and you need to be mindful of how much liquid you're trying to orally syringe at a time.

They really do need to work on making medications intended for feline use more cat-friendly. I think we'd all have a few less wounds from it LOL

My vet said no to this question when I asked it when my Ali started taking prednisone.

I have had no trouble getting it down her twice a day and she has feline auto immune disease and the pemphigus was awful.

No.  Sterility comes under question when doing something like this.  You're better off researching the suppliers of the SQ form instead for pricing.

Absolutely not.  But you could try a transdermal version (you rub a gel on the inside of the ear), see this loink and discuss with your vet.

Tipoy also also has cancer and he is receiving pred daily but I have the liquid form and give it to him with a syringe.  You could ask your vet about getting the liquid form instead of the pill form.  I just do the taco kitty and it takes like two seconds to give him his dose.

My cat takes prednisolone every other day for IBD.  He takes it in the form of a dissolvable pill.  It's a little blue pill that I crush up and then sprinkle it into his food.  It dissolves and he doesn't even know it's there.  I always give him a spoonful of his food with the pill in it to make sure he gets the full dose, and then give him the rest of his food.
