Hello
Well it's getting to that dreaded time of the year and the fireworks have started. I've only had my rescue cat (5 years old) since last Jan and last November was awful. She spent many hours hiding under the bed. The fireworks have started already and she's still just as scared. I've read about the product Feliway but have seen mixed reviews about it. Has anyone had any experience of Feliway especially for the fireworks situation? Has it helped settle your cats, even just slightly? Thanks

I usually plug in a Feliway diffuser a couple of days before fireworks are to start and believe it helps. Other things you can do are play soothing classical music and provide hiding places in the form of boxes or a blanket behind the sofa. If you have shutters or thick curtains to dampen the noise, do use them.

No, we have Halloween too. Actually the US version of Halloween was brought over from Europe so it's a mix of all the different traditions and festivals that go on at this time of year. The Jack'o'Lantern, for example, is an Irish tradition that comes from one of the stories about Stingy Jack, doomed to wander through limbo for eternity with just a coal inside a hollowed out turnip to light his way.

Sorry, @LyndsPops we're really getting off topic here.

My kitties are terrified of fireworks. I just make them up a little cozy spot in their favorite (lower) kitchen cabinet. They use it as a "Thunder Bunker" usually, but it's a mainstay on Independence Day, and New Year's as well.

Thanks everyone. Sorry for not replying!

Well the update is I bought a Feliway diffuser and it worked a treat. First time the fireworks went off my cat was sleeping on her radiator bed and she woke up, listened for a few minutes and then settled back to sleep!! It's even helped with the noise from the hoover which she usually hates.

Would definitely recommend the plug in diffuser.

Now I can settle knowing she's a lot happier and not stressing whenever fireworks are set off :) Happy mummy :)
