Pretty self explanatory. My 5 month old has taken to a combination of chewing/Sucking on the afghan at the foot of my bed. The sound of her doing it wakes me at night sometimes. How to make her stop?!?
Our youngest did/does that as well. She sucks on the fleece throw blanket in the sofa while kneading with her paws.
Whenever she starts sucking on the fleece, we gently pick her up by the scruff and put her on the floor near her toys. After a months or 3 she almost completely stopped doing it. We may just catch her doing it early in the mornings after her first meal, but we only have to say "Ketchup..." in a somewhat growly voice and she stops doing it.
So my advice would be to simply pick her up by the scruff and put her near her toys. You'll be doing it a lot the first few weeks (and will still be losing sleep because of that), but in the long run it should help.
Option 2: wash/spray the afghan with a strong citrus-y smell. Cats normally don't like that smell and will avoid it.. But that will most likely lead her to the next best thing to suck on, which could be your hair.
Distracting her by putting her near her toys is a good idea. However picking up by the scruff is really inadvisable after a few months of age as they get older and heavier... it's really just something a mother does with her kittens.
I'm wondering how old she was when you got her? This can happen in cats that are weaned too young or really quickly.
