Oh, and she will need to be kept inside for about a week post surgery, while she is healing.  Otherwise the wound could open if she jumps up, say going over a fence, or up on a shed.

It's also weird for me to have to approve a post from two residents of the Ocean State having a conversation. That's a first for me as a Moderator. :lol3: Seeing Warwick and Cranston got my attention. Welcome neighbors! I live about a mile from the RI border.

Good luck with this kitty. Saturday's weather isn't looking great so I hope she adopts you before then. The weather may be enough to have her seek you out.

Hopefully I get her inside soon enough. I'll also have to find time to convince the parents to keep her in and convince them to partially pay for the spaying, and I need to do all this in a month's time.

I hope I can do it.

I hope she doesn't disappear and have the kittens outside

Let's put it this way, I was at the Target in Seekonk today. :lol3: We're on the same side of the Washington Bridge.

It sounds like she is starting to consider you to be a safe place and she may be looking for a safe place to have the kittens. :cross:

Fingers crossed.

After a discussion my mother is on board with at least having the cat inside for a few days to prove herself. She's a furniture scratcher but I'll hide that long enough for her to prove her sweetness lol.
Still unconvinced about it being homeless, she agreed that if she didn't have an allergic reaction to the cat we would take it for a chip scan and then a spaying. :)

Cats have to scratch, it is instinct with them.

I'm putting this to see if we can brain storm.  For my cats, I have cat trees - one in every room.  I rub catnip on the cat tree, and I use a squirt bottle with equal parts water and white vinegar, and spray the furniture.  This half and half mix is mild enough that we humans do not  notice the smell.  But it is strong enough that the kitty does smell it and is repelled.  So I have trained my cats to only use their furniture for scratching, not mine.  Periodically I again rub the catnip and spray the furniture.  It is important to do both at the same time, or else one scent is stronger and one is milder.

I wonder what you can do so she has some place to scratch.

You can clip her nails so they are not sharp points; they will do less damage if they are blunt.  Cat nails are easy to clip (unlike dogs).

I'm not too worried about the scratching lol. I don't really have any cat amenities in the house. If it does become a problem I'll jump that hurdle when I get there.

What a complicated situation!   Relief that your mother looks to be coming round to the idea of offering this little cat at least a temporary home.

There are a couple of links you might find helpful, one on managing living with cat allergies, and the other about cats and discipline (or perhaps more acurately the lack of it,  you have to be more devious and try to see things from their perspecitve if you want to get them to change their kitty ways).

Good luck with this, it certainly sounds like she has decided your home is a safe place to be.  It's possible she had a home near by and once she became pregnant they weren't interested any more.

Thanks for the links, especially the allergy one.

Luckily the cat would have almost half of the house largely to itself, and we've already determined that she won't be allowed in the bedroom (We have parakeets in there as well) so she should be good.

Update: Haven't seen her since she was in the house when I posted a few days ago. Hoping the bad weather will draw her here.

Fingers crossed for her and that where ever she is she is safe.  Let us know if you find her.

No sign of her yet. She always disappears during bad weather and for some time after (You'd think she'd be drawn out, what with all the wind and rain) which points to her having a house to go to, but everything else about her behavior says the opposite. I guess we'll wait and see.

Hello odd kitty liked almost lover. :) this too happened to me recently; all the same scenarios and I realized not long after she was pregnant and gave birth to two kittens...I did my best setting up shelter outdoors, and would not take the kittens away until I knew it was safe and they could eat normal food instead of only the mother's milk. I found homes for the kittens, but could not find a home for this poor mother because she wasn't "little." But I urge you to do something quickly...I have been searching for a no kill rescue that had room for her, and in the long process something horrible happened, and I found her deceased two doors down on a vacant house porch. I don't know if she was poisoned, or froze in the night, but it literally broke my heart! I can't stop beating myself up for not moving quicker on her...the truth is, even these strays didn't ask to be here, and someone has to help. Good luck, and I hope you have resources nearby that can help. :)

I'm trying to get her as soon as possible.

My mother reported seeing her sprawled out in the grass of a neighbor's yard, so she's going to ask them if it's their cat. (Even though they didn't respond to the flier I made) That's the only possible person she could belong to, really.

Almost a month later and guess who shows up. Would she have had kittens by now? She looks to be a normal size and there wasn't anything with her nipples to indicate her having kittens. She's climbing a shelf right now.

Edit: Never mind- I'm not pursuing the matter. She wanted to go outside so I let her and I saw her go up to another neighbor's porch and beg to be let in. I've now seen her do this at several houses and she's of considerable size so she's getting food somehow. If she ever needs a home or something I'm sure by now she's realized we're willing to let her inside.

It sounds like it's quite possible she is simply being well fed and may never have been prego!

Surely you would see if she had kittens, she would look sucked in and hanging a bit from her underside.

Hi, good chance your bird feeder attracts rodents 24/7 as well as birds, so the cat chose your place for all the action.

You may not see them, but rats and skunks work the night shift.  I took my feeder down because of this.

What state are you in? Just curious ...
