Pretty Boy seems to be a healthy 11 yr old out door cat, but yeaterday he came in for a bite to eat and a drink of water as is his habit. We noticed mucus dripping from his mouth and he doesn't eat or drink. We feed him water with an eye dropper. Seems with the mucus, he must have an infection. I have some bovine penicillin, but am afraid to give it to him.

Please take him to the vet ASAP!! A cat not eating or drinking is an emergency and mucus dripping from his mouth is not normal.

Please do NOT give him any drugs without speaking to a vet.

Let us know how it goes at the vet.
for you and Pretty Boy.

I agree with tulosai - you need to take your cat to a vet ASAP for treatment. Do not give any medication to your cat, especially NOT the bovine (cow / livestock) penicillin
Only a vet can properly diagnose and treat your cat.

The mucous is heavy drooling, quite likely he has a painful dental issue.

Often times it's as simple as a tooth extraction and he will be just fine, but if it is left for him to live in so much terrible pain, and we ALL know the pain suffered due to a bad/infected tooth, unbearable.

It hurts too much to eat or drink, he would suffer tremendously and lose alot of weight.

That's simply unfair, so please, take him in asap.

Thank you all for the advice. I'll  have to find Pretty Boy and call the vet. Thanks.

I hope you were able to get Pretty Boy to the vet.

Something similar happened to my Boo and it turned out to be a huge, painful ulcer on his tongue from calicivirus. He was given a pain patch and proper medications from the vet. Although the ulcer itself wasn't life-threatening, not eating and drinking IS. He was also in a great deal of pain and needed relief.

Boo is indoor only. The fact that Pretty Boy goes outside opens up many more things that could be wrong.
