She had 3. They are all grey like her. :)

They are all nursing and momma is still puring like a motorboat. It's odd though cuz she almost never purs. Maybe it's just because they are nursing?

Kitten number one was born while I was asleep, but kitten number two is here now as well. Kitten 1 keeps climbing underneath mom. Mom hasn't fed kitten 1 yet but kitten 2 is feeding. I'm worried about kitten 1.
Woohoo! What'd I tell ya! Funny :))

She might not be done, so keep an eye on that, as well as making sure they are all continuing to nurse well.

Congratulations gramma!

After delivery, the newspaper, etc will have been wet and soiled, so you will want to be sure that all is changed to soft bedding/towels, something like that that is absorbent.

In the future, try not to use newspaper ads with all the color, due to lack of absorbency.

Yes, its one of the main reasons. Helping her and helping her kittens too.

Congrats and good luck!

ps.  I understand the diarrhea has diminished and is fully controllable now?  Im not sure if you wrote it in clear earlier, but I gather so it is by understanding, as you dont discuss it anymore.

Yeah she's stopped having diareea now. They gave her amoxicillin. Of course now she won't let me give it to her as she won't come out of the box. That's the same reason that I haven't taken out the newspaper yet. She doesn't want anyone sticking their hands into the box. If anyone but me walks into the room she starts growling. And she growls while eating now which she has never done before.

Will it be okay to leave the paper in there for awhile? Or do you have any advice on how to get it out without her attacking? She lets me look but if I put my hand into the box she starts growling.

Touchy as she is so higlhly defensive.  More than most.

Try to prepare another nest, even a provisorical.   And let it be nearby.  With a little luck she will move herself the kittens.

They dont like to lie in soiled nests.   In the wild its one of the reasons why they move with kittens from place to place.

Also, be sure you talk much and sweetly.  It often helps to downgrade their tensions and attack mode.   I had a coworker, whose almost whole fostering of semiferales was based on such a sweetly talks...  It worked also with the elk family and the fox visiting their place...  :)

Thanks for the advice. I always talk sweetly with her. I also have started wearing gloves when I give her food and water. She is growling less at me now but if anyone else even walks in my room she starts throwing a fit. I was able to get the paper out while wearing my gloves. I just hope that as they get older she lets us hold them. I want them to trust humans and be loving.

Good idea to keep looking for a way to hold kittens, very important to their development down the road that they be held. Find a way to get her moving about, I'm sure it'll happen soon. Post more pics!

She is simply on high alert/protective mode, she will settle down soon enough.

Meanwhile when you are dealing with her, changing litter, food, etc just focus on her mostly, offer her special treats from your hand and so on.

She obviously has trust with you, she is just one of the more overprotective moms but it gets better.

No worries about handling the babies at this time. Now they are getting familiar with your voice and smell, once their eyes open you will find them staring at you at times, I LOVE that :)

As far as socializing, they won't need to be held until 3 weeks old so you have lots of time, and bet by then you will already be able to hold them.

When you do, start off by holding baby while in the box rather than pulling him out just yet, gives mom a chance to see you are not going to take them away.

Thank you for the advice. I will definitely try that with simply holding them in the box when the time comes. I know that you aren't supposed to hold them for at least a week. I was surprised that she let me pet her while she nursed this morning for about 45 minutes. I got some better pics then too. :D

My kittens are a week old now and momma lets me pet them and even pick them up very carefully. She doesn't seem to mind at all. However after a few minutes she comes back out of the box, sniffs the baby then grabs it by the neck to carry it back. It doesn't seem like she's carrying them by the scruff though, more like their full head or neck. And it seems to take her several tries before she gets a good hold on them. Is this normal?

Yes, it can look quite awkward.   :)

ps.  If mom is fetching them, its perhaps a hint you hold on the babies a trifle too long for her liking?   Return them yourself, in time.   :)

Although its of course a good sign she doenst protest visibly nor minds you taking and handling them.    @kysand7

I just have to share my babies with the world! I adore them all so much! They are 2 weeks old today. :)

This is Bambi

This is Kito

And this is Sadie Skunk

They've all gotten so big already and I just love them. I can't walk into my closet without stopping to stare at them. :)

Here's a family pic too.

@kysand7  these fur babies are gorgeous. So like their momma.  Their gray and wite colouring looks purrfect to me, and Bambi's little face and paws made my heart stop for a second.
How cute is Kito!!!  Those whiskers are fantastic.  Are Kito's eyes just opening in the picture, they look a little different to each other in this picture with the left a little smaller and cloudy but it might be the photograph?

Looking forward to more pictures and updates on these babies and their mother.

It's just the photo. That was the first day they had their eyes mostly open. All of their eyes are now clear blue and they are constantly trying to escape from the closet. I adore them though. :) poor mama freaks out every time they try to leave though.
