Saturday, my little guy Montgomery was his usual self. He was tearing around playing with our foster kittens (who have lived with us now for sixteen weeks). His appetite was good, and his digestion was normal (for Montgomery). Saturday night, he slept in the bed with me, which he doesn't usually do as he prefers his own hot water bottle, and when he pooed in the bed, it was normal for Montgomery. Sunday morning, he refused his canned food, which he NEVER does, and looked icky, for lack of a better word. He didn't want to play and he had trapped gas even though he'd had his drops. He got that sick cat odour which to me smells like horses, and stayed in his bed all day, his incontinence pad changed frequently. What was leaking out of him was pale brown, almost clear, and almost as thin as water. We treated him with KP last night, every four hours, and I was prepared to bring him to our veterinarian this morning if he was no better.

To-day he is back to his usual self. He downed his breakfast with his usual enthusiasm and has been running and playing all day. His stool is back to its usual colour and consistency, and he even hit the litter box once this morning.

He eats w/d from the veterinarian (canned and dry). He gets no treats. He has no access to any other food. He does not go outside. I can't figure out what happened. The last time this happened, over a year ago, he had eaten part of a Milk-Bone, but this time there was nothing. I know there are many others here with cats with digestive issues - anyone else know about this?

I don't have experience with this particular issue, but I do have an older cat (18-1/2) who goes through 'spells'--he'll start pooping inappropriately, goes off eating, wobbles around, and I'll think, oh no, this may be the beginning of the end, but then he'll bounce back after a day or two.  It's happened a couple of times, with no explanation as to what happened or what made him feel better again.

So how's he doing now--still okay, I hope?

Yeah, he's going strong. Zooming around the place - up and down the cat trees, chasing and being chased by our foster kittens and his other buddies, eating up a storm. Whatever was bothering him seems to be out of his system. The last time this happened, it went on a couple of days and the veterinarian gave him fluids because he was beginning to get dehydrated, but this time he bounced back before that was necessary. Its scary when he's ill because no one can figure out what's wrong with him. I hope your cat's okay. Its rotten sitting there with your stomach in knots hoping they get better and not really knowing what to do.

Glad to hear Montgomery is doing well.  My Travis is okay, thanks.  He just has a chronic case of old-man-itis.

How old is Montgomery?

Montgomery will be three in March. We were so shocked he lived to be one that we threw him a birthday party. He's a really special little guy.

Awww. Wishing Montgomery many more happy birthdays.  I'm glad that whatever episode this was didn't last!
