I currently have Sebastian on a rotational diet in which I feed one single protein for three weeks before moving on to the next protein. He currently gets 70% canned and 30% home-cooked (always a matching protein) supplemented with Balance It. His menu is as follows:

Rabbit

Pork

Turkey

Beef

Duck

I'd like to revisit the home-cooked diet and see if there is a way that I can incorporate a more "natural" recipe. The Balance It supplement is simple and convenient, but it is mostly synthetic vitamins and minerals. The last time I tried to slowly increase the percentage of home-cooked, it didn't agree with Sebastian and I wonder if the supplement is the problem.

I see that Hare Today has matching livers for every protein in Sebastian's rotation. (I may have to fudge a little with rabbit; they sell "rabbit organs" together.)

Does anyone know how I could create complete and balanced cooked recipes using each of these proteins with their matching livers and eggshell calcium?

I feel like I'm asking for the impossible.

I don't have a good answer for your question, but wanted to mention that both of my cats got pretty bad diarrhea when I fed them more than a couple of bites of cooked food containing BalanceIT. So your hunch may be correct and I think you're on the right track, seeking to find another way to supplement Sebastian's home-cooked food.

When I purchased and tried BalanceIT, I also purchased a small sample of U-Stew. The ingredients look a little more natural, but at the same time, some might not agree with Sebastian. Alnutrin seems a little less "natural" than U-Stew, but contains less stuff than BalanceIt. Additionally, you can purchase a blend that does not contain calcium. I have recipes for cooked pork and rabbit that use Alnutrin. I think I got them from this site, but I truly don't remember where. Perhaps from the cooked recipes thread at the top of the page.

I am considering Alnutrin again, as I found a raw rabbit blend that Tim seems to tolerate. But it needs supplements; right now, it is less than 5% of his daily calories. Because the blend contains bones, I would get the Alnutrin without calcium. I see that Alnutrin offers free samples. Maybe you can try this with Sebastian to see how he does. I am also considering adding important supplements one by one, as was suggested to me in my "smallbatch rabbit" thread. Maybe a similar approach would work with Sebastion, but someone would need to help with the supplements if the only organ you're including is liver.

I'm not sure I understand what you are after. You don't want to use supplements and you only want to use meat, liver and eggshell? What is it you want to use to make the food balanced if not supplements? Or is it that you just don't want to use BalanceIt and want add the individual supplements your self?

Have you taken a look at the cooked recipes thread?

Interesting about the Balance It not agreeing with Tim, @AbbyNTim. Thanks for sharing. Yes, I believe U-Stew is more of a "whole food" supplement mix, which is good, but there are several things in that mix that Sebastian could react to, so I'm reluctant to try it.

Thanks. Hmm...sorry for not being clear.
I understand that I have to use some supplements in order for it to be balanced. So yes, I was looking more at adding the individual supplements myself - whatever is needed after using meat, liver and a calcium source (ideally eggshell calcium or MCHA).

I am subscribed to the Cooked Recipes Thread, but it's been awhile. Let me take a look again...

Ah, yes. Thanks. I see some things over in the Cooked Recipes Thread that I have questions about.

I'll tell you what. I'm going to jump over there and ask my questions since that seems to be the appropriate place to be. For those tuning into this thread, I'll be over in Cooked Recipes Thread asking the remainder of my questions.

Sorry for starting a whole new thread when it really wasn't needed!
