A family posted some cards on the street of a missing cat many months ago. Twice this month a cat that looks similar to the one in the card showed up on my back patio. My 2 cats start hissing at him when they see him. Anyway I called the number on the card and sent a photo to the people who lost their cat. They said it looks like him and he is microchipped. They want to see him.

Problem is this cat only shows up on my patio once in a while. I can try to bring him in if he lets me get near him.

He doesn't have a collar. I wish people that let their cats out put collar with tags on them. Microchips are useless to know if this is a feral cat or a stray from a distance. It drives me nuts.

I agree, maybe you can call the people when you see the cat and feed him some tuna or something to keep him there, that would be wonderful if you found his family!

Do you have or could you borrow a trail camera from someone? If you leave the camera and a dish of food out at night you might be able to get a picture of him. If I was his owner and someone told me they'd seen a cat that looked like mine I'd be camped out in their back yard until he showed up again.

I agree with you about the collars, but safety collars sometimes snag in bushes and get pulled off. My cats manage to lose their collars even though they never leave their enclosure. I wish there was a collar that would stay on without the risk of the cat getting trapped or choking.

We did get a photo of him. These people said it looks like him but that he was microchipped. Like what am I supposed to do with a microchip? Anyway he isn't around all the time. And the only way we know he's here is when our cats start growling at him thru the window.

I agree if it were my cat I would at least spend a few hours walking in the area with the hopes of seeing him. It could be their cat but I'm not sure as they seem to live about a mile away from here.

Yeah I know what you mean about the safety collars. The ones from Walmart the clips come apart too easy.

Microchips are great for the lucky few cats that go missing and get taken into a shelter, but they're not much use otherwise. What we really need is some kind of tracking device so we can work out exactly where those missing cats are.

So they only live a mile from you and they haven't been round to try and find their cat themselves? That is kind of weird.......
