We are currently using a multicat clumping litter which is like small grains of sand....it is everywhere with a 4 cat household!  Anybody had any luck other types of litter which would not get between their toes and tracked all over the house?

I know the perils of changing litter but since we have 4 litter boxes I thought I might switch one and try it.

Really could use some advice on this.

Thanks in advance

I`ve switched litter multiple times and never had a problem.   Not saying it can`t happen but I have not seen it.   There is no perfect litter.   Every litter is going to track or get kicked out of the box.    The best way to approach this is through containment by using enclosed or high-wall boxes and special anti-tracking mats.  The mats I prefer have alot of mixed fibers to trap the litter.   Then the question becomes what litter is the least bothersome to you after it gets out.    Usually the answer to this is something that doesn`t hurt when you step on it barefoot.

I'm using the Breeze litter pellet system. I have three cats and I love it because it does seem to trap the odor. There isn't much kicking out and the pellets last forever (I bought a 6 pack box from Amazon a year ago that is finally running out).

We didn't have a problem with our cats but we've never had a problem with any litter but the pine one.

My 3 cats also had the Breeze litter pellet system & all switched over easily. It doesn't track at all. just the occasional rogue pellet. Overall, it works well. You need to be vigilant to change the pad and refill the pellets often. If you have any cats with runny poo, its a problem. It gets stuck everywhere & smelly. I'm currently transitioning them back to the pine pellets. They really like that one & since I have a FLUTD cat, I need to get a better idea of how much pee is coming out each time, which is near impossible with the breeze.

I use the horse pine pellets 40 lb bag from Tractor supply. Feline pine pellets are the same thing. I also bought 2 of the sifting litter boxes from The feline pine's web sight. I couldn't be happier with this litter. Does not Track and it's not dusty at all. When the cat urinates the pellets turn to saw dust. When the cat poops it stays on top and you scoop it out. the sifting litter boxes come with two boxes. The top one has the holes in it. You shake it back and forth so the saw dust will fall through the cracks and into the second pan. The saw dust is much lighter than the used clay litter. It is much cleaner. No more muddy mess on the bottom of the litter boxes like with the clay. I can't sing its praises enough it's so much better. I have 3 cats./

Thanks for the response....the breeze system might have possibilities so some questions for those who use it
1) what about the poop..the cats seem to want to bury it in clay but with it staying on top don't they step\track in all over?
2) what about cost?...we have 4 cats so how often would I change the pads? How often for the litter? (Is a year on a 6 pack realistic?)

Thanks.really wanting to get rid of the "walking on the beach effect" in the middle of the night.
Yes, we have high side boxes and the woven rugs but they shake their feet after stepping off the rugs!

Well, I don't know about your cats, but this is my experience with my 3. They don't have a problem with stepping on top of their poop. 1 of them still buries his poop with the pellets & the other 2 leave it on top (but they did that with other types of litter too). I don't think it matters because no cat would really want to step on their own poop.

With the pads, I have 3 cats & 2 breeze boxes. I changed both pads once a week. The regular size pack for pads is 4 pads. It's $15 at petsmart and $9 on amazon (free shipping with prime). So that's 2 packs a month for pads for me ($18-$30). I would add a new bag of pellets once a month & split it between the two. The pellets are about $16 at petsmart and $10 on amazon. So, it cost $28-$46 a month on supplies to keep 2 boxes clean for 3 cats.

I'll admit, I wasn't always the best at changing the pad & these guys seemed to always use 1 for pee & 1 for poo, so the changing was not so symmetrical. I usually went through 3 pads a month instead of 4. If you can get the supplies on amazon & get bulk packs, its not bad. Obviously, 4 cats would need a bit more.

There is a new litter out for multiple cats by Arm n hammer. Called clump n seal there's no smell for 7 days. N I have 4 large cats.
I find their advertising confusing. What do they mean by no odor for 7 days? Surely no one in their right mind would leave the litter for a whole week without scooping. If you're scooping every day and the odor control stops after 7 days, that would be a deal breaker for me. I'm not about to totally replace clumping litter once a week. If I wanted to change the litter that often I would have stayed with cheaper non-clumping.

I had the Breeze before I had the pine and it was more difficult to transition my 3 cats. I also felt it was costly to maintain. For the pellets it is 6 or 7 dollars for 40Lbs  and the 2 litter boxes were 70.00 delivered from the feline pine web sight. The pine pellets are really the same concept as the Breeze ( as far as the poop goes) And rather than the pee pads the pellets turn to saw dust. If you get the sifting box then the box itself is similar to the breeze because it has holes on the bottom. The pellets are placed in the box with the holes and then that box sits in an other box. Let me know if you want me to take a picture of it. If you go on you tube you can find vides showing how to separate the saw dust from the good pellets without using the sifting box. You can also fine tutorials to make your own sifting box.

I am currently switching over to Perfect Litter by Pet Healthy Holdings (www.perfectlitter.com) from Dr. Elsey's R&R Crystal litter.  The crystal tracks everywhere and it smells awful - no odor control at all, in my opinion.  I've used Dr Elsey's litter in the blue bag for years (unbeatable clumping) but the weight of the stuff was killing me.  Found "Perfect Litter" and it is unbelevably light weight, good odor control and pretty good clumping, minimal tracking.  My cats use it and I'm sold on this.  Knock on wood my cats don't have problem when switching litter which I've done many times over the years.
