My new kitten Minchin is the most enthusiastic litter box cat I have ever met.  When he has a bowel movement, he goes into high gear, tossing litter left right and centre.  I have found litter sprayed into a shelf which is four feet above his box.  haha  At the end of his cover up attempts, there often is as much litter on the floor as there is in the box.  haha   This is rather gross, but also kind of hilarious.  He's trying so hard.

I know there has to be something I can do to contain his powerful litter spraying.  I just haven't found anything online or at the pet store yet.  I might have to make a barrier to keep the litter inside the box.  Sometimes, there is a bit of feces in the litter, which sticks to the wall.  That's not so good.

I realize I can't train him to stop doing it, so, I'll have to improvise to control it.

Does anyone know of a product that will act as a barrier?  If not, I might just go to the hardware store and have some plastic cut.  It will cut some of the spray down.  I hate the idea of investing in another litter box, but I might have to.  Perhaps one that is covered.  He's big enough now that he can climb in.  I bought two new litterboxes after Ra passed away.  I thought it would be better to get rid of his scent in there before introducing another cat.  That now feels like a big waste of money.  Oh well.  LIve and learn.

Eww, sticking to the wall!

If the cats will use it, a covered box sounds good. Alternatively, a lot of people (myself included) have "DIY" litter boxes using tall plastic totes. You can leave the lid off, put the lid on and cut a hole in the side, or put the lid on and cut a hole in the top. Unless he's digging completely vertically or on some perfect angles, it sounds like the latter might be successful for you. They tend to be taller than standard commercial litter boxes and I find they're much easier to clean, which has proven beneficial for our 10 year old digging machine and our 1 year old standing butt-up pee machine.
