HISTORY: My gorgeous kitty, Tyson is a 6 month old male, has had both injections and was only castrated 3 weeks ago.

We let him out for the first time about a week and a bit ago and he was very happy being outisde - we hardly saw him!

PROBLEM: Since Thursday I noticed that my cat was not eating as much and thought nothing of it. To be honest, I thought he was just too happy with being outside and forgot to eat!

On Friday 2 days ago he only had a few bites of his breakfast and drank his (cat) milk. Come Saturday, I was about to leave the house and left some treats (Dreamies) out for him so he doesn't try to follow me out. He turned his nose up at them. I tried a meaty stick (which he normally LOVES) and he turned his nose up at this as well. Next thing I know, he vomited watery yellow bile. That's when I cancelled all my plans and I took him straight to the vets.

On the way in the car he had vomited once more yellow bile. The vet checked his temperature, belly and his weight and said all is fine and cannot feel any tensing in the belly (which is what would happen if he had something stuck in there). Gave him an anti-sickness jab and said to feed him in the next hour or so once kicked in.

When we were in the car on the way home from the vets, he had diarrhea - very watery - and lots of it!

I fed him an hour or so later as told by the vet - and my kitty only had half of a very small tin of gormet (cat pate) - and that was all he seemed to stomach.

PRESENTLY: - 24 hours after eating this 1/2 tin, he has turned his nose up at his food again! He is drinking, and has not vomited since and only passed urine once to my knowledge. He is responsive and has been playing with his ball and with his favourite laser pen. Surprisingly though, he has refused to go outside. He is extremely quiet (normally he always gets the last word in). He won't jump up any higher than our sofa. Is he in pain? He hasn't been crying and has been running around a bit... I just don't know what to think anymore :(

I'm worried his not eating is going to take a long-term affect on him, as he is only young and I trust this first year is the most important time to keep him fit and healthy.

Tomorrow, I have to go into work - but will try to get home early and book him straight back into the vets. Any ideas what could be wrong with him?

And more importantly- should I be worried??? I've been so emotional over this - he is the love of my life. Please help :'(

Thank you.

Do not let him out and get him dewormed. Feed him canned food only and see if it gets better. If he goes out and kills prey, he could have worms. Mine had nothing show in stool sample but after deworming and using revolution instead of frontline and not letting her out and cutting out dry and grain all is well again. She went out for 6 years but no more.

Hi bonepicker - thank you for your response.

he was dewormed about 2 weeks ago - i'm not too sure about reworming so soon- is that okay to do?

He literally does not eat anything at all so canned food will probably not help any better than the other foods have. He sleeps alot as well. As soon as he woke up just now, I tried giving him a treat and - he wants it, but he sniffs the food and then gags. I try this with his normal meals and treats such as dreamies and lick-e-lix but nothing works.

Agree about deforming. What shots are you referring to ? Not eating is not good. He may be at risk for fatty liver disease.
Personally I would be worried too. Can you take him into the vets before work, drop him off? E-vet. Or call your regular vet, he may have an emergency contact number.

Yes, I would call your vet's office and see if someone is on call. Since you were just in the other day, they should be happy to help.

I'm confused as to what his initial diagnosis was. Did the vet say what was wrong with him?

I agree in feeding him wet food only once he's better. It's just healthier. Right now though, whatever he'll eat is fine.

Cats really aren't safe to go outside anymore unless they are on a harness. There are just far too many dangers that tempt them.

Call your vet and I hope he feels better.

If he's sniffing at the food like he's interested and hungry and then walking away, he could be nauseated. That happens a lot with my hospice boy. He is on anti-nausea medication twice and day, plus an appetite stimulant. Not saying your cat has cancer, but what you described sounds like what Buffy did. I think a vet visit is definitely in order.

Thanks all for your responses- I am sorry I haven't answered - my internet has been down (which is quite a convenience) I've booked him in today and I'm seeing the vet in 2 hours.

My baby has just eaten some dreamies and a couple of bites of his normal wet food - but not a lot.

@catmom5 - I think in panic, I didn't tell the vet in as much detail as I had on this thread, but it is certainly worth a mention....

Unfortunately, the vet just said that this is concerning and to try the anti-sickness for now. This obviously had not worked.

He mentioned about having a blood test or an x-ray. But with such a wide variety of health problems these symptoms could be a result of- it's hard to tell what would help diagnose him right now. The money is not an issue - only if I run out of money without an answer...

Is it possible he could have swallowed something, or have an hairball/obstruction blocking his intestines? Does he normally cough up hairballs?

Blood work and an x-ray may help at least eliminate certain things.

Vibes for your kitty. I hope he's better soon.
