Thank you so very much for your kind heart.

I have been keeping up with this thread and I can't believe how much this cat has gone through in such a short amount of time, and it now has a great chance to live because of you!

I pray that you find a placement for this cat. Thank you once again for all you have done and will do for this cat.

UPDATE 11/11/14

I contacted every animal and cat rescue group that I could think of leading up to today desperately looking for someone to foster or adopt and unfortunately up until late last night nobody could help.

As I sat down desperately thinking and thinking and thinking some more about possible scenarios because today was my deadline at the vet to collect the cat I received an sms by a cat rescue group asking me to drop the cat off to them today and they will squeeze her in. I felt like I had won the lottery at that moment.

Sorry mods If you feel that the following is advertising but the cat rescue society in question deserves some credit.

They are called MECATS Middle East Cat Society and they are headed by a very nice lady called Petra who for the last 20 years of her life has dedicated time money and effort rescuing abandoned, sick and injured cats off the streets of Dubai especially the Arabian Mau cat which since 2008 has been a recognised breed by the WCF, World Cat Federation. It was thanks to Petra and her effort that this unwanted street cat which is a natural breed of the region that has survived over 1000 years and adapted to the hot and sandy desert climate is now a recognised breed of cat and not just a street vermin as many people in this region think.

Unfortunately the majority of the population in this region still see the Arabian Mau as a vermin and that includes the expat population of the UAE and neighbouring countries.

The Arabian Mau is actually a very loving cat that likes to play and loves cuddles. All it wants in return is food (and plenty of it :) they love to eat from experience and I guess the reason is that they have had to live off whatever they could find on the streets). It is a beautiful cat with beautiful eyes with a coat that is very low maintenance being short and single coated.

Petra has at the moment I believe 239 cats, a few dogs and two tortoises. She probably has rescued other animals too that I'm not aware of. Mecats is actually really struggling financially and for space too. Unfortunately when a cat is being fostered it is actually very difficult to rehome them and the majority end up spending their life at Petra's very cramped premises. In this region people are willing to pay a fortune for a pedigree cat but are not willing to adopt the hundreds of thousands of their own pure breed Arabian Mau cats being injured, starving or killed on the streets. Even the pedigree cats that people buy at the pet store a lot of the time have a sell by date, usually when they are not kittens and ''cute'' anymore and end up being dumped.

Mecats is struggling for space and are in need of food and help. Feeding and caring for 239 healthy, sick and injured cats cannot be cheap and I would hate to think what the daily bill for food, cat litter, medicine and vet bills are.

If anybody wants to adopt a pure Arabian Mau with an approved certificate that this is an Arabian Mau can contact Mecats and I'm sure that they would be very happy to send some of their cats and kittens to forever loving homes. I am willing to do all the running around and phoning around to see how much it would cost to send a rescue cat back to your home country. And if anyone feels that they want the cat that I rescued I am willing to contribute towards her international travel.

Rant over let me update everyone on my rescue.

I collected the cat from the vet today and she was much calmer. She only let out an angry scared yowl when she was handled by the nurse with these great big gloves and put into the carrier. I swear I believe she calms down when she hears my voice. I think she knows that I saved her and it breaks my heart that I cannot keep her.

She did not even make a sound throughout the whole of the 45 minute drive to Mecats' premises. I talked to her during the drive to calm her down and it seems to have worked. She still does not want to be handled but when I stuck my fingers inside the cage talking to her she did not seem aggressive at all.

I am sure that this cat can become a loving household pet within a short period. She needs a loving parent, shelter and food that's all and she can be quickly rehabilitated.

As mentioned previously Mecats is overcrowded and it is not the ideal place for any cat but I guess the alternative would have been to release her back on the street.

I need to do more for this cat I don't think that I've done enough. I feel like I have abandoned her at the end. I failed to find her a home and I cannot stop thinking about her and the many sick and injured cats that I saw today at the rescue group's headquarters. Poor thing must be terrified at the moment in a new place surrounded by so many other cats. Yes she is off the streets and healthy but....

I'm including pictures from today. Ears still to the side but pupils less dilated.

I would like to thank:

The first vet eventhough they were very expensive and refused to give discounts but they were vital in keeping the cat alive when she was in pain and shock.

The second vet for the huge discount that they gave and the care and attention that was vital for the cat's recovery.

Mecats for opening their heart and home for the future safety of this cat

http://mecats.net/

All the rescue groups that I contacted whether they could help or not for doing a fantastic job caring for the suffering animals on our streets

Regards,

Hmm, so she has got kittens recently, I wonder where and how old kittens might be now?

I remember one of mine that had kittens, she fostered them more than 6 months, teaching them to hunt and find food etc. Hopefully kittens got to learn enough to survive before mother cat's accident.

I am so happy that you found a shelter willing to take her! That is wonderful news! That is so much better than releasing her to the street. Perhaps you can take this cat into your home some day when she is fully socialized and if your circumstances change. She will surely remember you. I believe that if your paths don't cross again on this earth that your spirits will meet again in the after life because you are true soul mates. Peace.

She will be safe and cared for, after all you have done, my gosh, you gave her life again!!

Who knows, maybe someday you can visit her, or even adopt her?

Maybe you would consider down the road helping Petra with fostering recovering cats.....(?)

It's certainly in your heart! GREAT job.

Just an observation - the more I look at those ears, the more they seem to be that way naturally and are only flattened because she is frightened.  Perhaps in future, when she is settled, you can visit and see if they are just set on her head that way.  She is a pretty cat and you are an angel!

She has a much more calm look to her eye, hun. I can see something there and I do believe that she would become such a loving, loyal kitty for someone. OH - I will hope/pray that somehow she will be seen at this wonderful rescue that came to you with their offer at the eleventh hour. How very lucky is that. So much better for this girl rather than back on the street with SOOO very many life threatening dangers. Please, PLEASE, know in your heart that what you did was WAY beyond what any other person would have done for this little girl. You gave her a chance at life, and without your intervention that night on the road, she would surely be gone. Be good to yourself now. I know, though, that feeling of worry/concern because now your heart is taken with her and you care about her. That can't be helped. We all go through that being rescuers. Argh - so many heart rending feelings to deal with. BUT - kitty is now safe and will have a chance to find a home. You can keep looking for her as well - trying to find a home and directing them to the rescue to see her. You never know. You are an absolute angel for what you did for her. :alright: :heart3: :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes: for this girl to someday soon be adopted. :cross:

I have been following this thread and the whole time I thought you were female. You are this cats hero and I have a feeling things will work out, you have come too far for them not to.

Fantastic news. Now she has a real chance of living a long and happy life. I know the shelter is not ideal, but it's much better than being out on the street again. While she is there you can keep looking for a better home for her. It's taken me months to get homes for some of the feral kittens I picked up, but if you keep asking people, keep using social networks such as Facebook, Mixi or whatever, something will eventually come up.

As @catwoman707  says, you'll probably find yourself helping Petra in the future. It's hard not to get involved, once you realise how many needy animals there are out there.

You're right, she does have quite an "Oriental" look to her, doesn't she?

Thank you all for your kind words and your advice. This is a fantastic site with great people and without your valuable advice and support I couldn't have helped this cat on my own. Each and everyone that advised me has played just as important a role as me in saving this cat's life.

It's each and everyone's duty to help the helpless and needy be it human or animal to try to make a change in this world of hate and wars no matter how small that change might be.

To most people especially in the country that I live in, I would be considered crazy to spend what I have spent nursing this cat back to health. Even some vets and cat rescue groups advised me to euthanise her and for a split second I considered it but I knew deep inside of me that I could never have given the go ahead to euthanise. I believe it is neither my decision nor my right to do so.

It took almost a month but the cat is now healthy and most importantly alive. She is not in the most perfect place, that would have been in a house with a family but she is off the streets and away from speeding cars and she has access to food and water. I wished that I could do more but right now I cannot.

To everyone that assumed that I was female I will change the picture in my avatar from pink to something blue :)

If anybody in Europe or the US or anywhere in the world might consider adopting this cat. I will do my best to find out how much the costs would be to deliver her to your country and I might even help financially towards the process because I know that it will be highly unlikely that she will ever be adopted in the UAE. Even cute little kittens do not get adopted here. She is now a healthy, vaccinated, microchipped and spayed Arabian Mau cat.

Cats travelling from the UAE are exempt from quarantine even if travelling to the UK which has some of the toughest Quarantine laws worldwide if they comply with the regulations set regarding Rabbies vaccine etc.... and this cat now complies with even the tough UK requirements for importing animals.

I can now finally make a new thread and introduce my two cats (Russian Blue and DSH) which was the main reason that I originally joined this site.

Regards,

We really look forward to meeting you all, in New Cats on the Block..

Don't forget, when you do, to put in a link to this thread as I think people will love to read what you've done for this girl.

@Mani  I couldn't agree more!

@BANANA  you are such a hero I can't begin to express how it makes me feel knowing how kind and caring you are as a person, with such a generous giving soul.

It seems to me that it might cost a small fortune to send this cat to the U.S.

I have a friend I deal with who is founder and president of Friends of Ferals in my area, seems to me it wouldn't be too hard to get her relocated to a winery or someplace similar.

You don't think she will be good where she is?

If you think that someone in the US might be interested in adopting her I can find out how much transportation would be. I have just imported two cats to the UAE. One from the UK and the other one from Russia and you are right the whole process wasn't cheap. But considering that I have already microchipped and vaccinated her I believe all that is left is to make a rabbies serum test to check if all is ok and then issue export certificates and book her on a flight.

I am willing to contribute financially towards all the above if someone wants to adopt her.

Where she is at right now is overcrowded and they are really struggling. It is not your typical shelter where all the cats are separated in private quarters. The majority of the cats roam free around the premises which is good on the one hand but also bad because if one cat becomes sick they can infect the rest. I also do not think the majority of the cats in the shelter ever stand a chance of being adopted. People don't really care here.

Second :bigthumb: up to Mani and can't wait to read about your two kitties and adding in your link to this thread is a great idea. We all love people like you that go the extra, long mile. :hugs:

LISA............ :thud: THAT is incredible and what a miracle that would be if this girl has absolutely no other options. She will be the world traveler then. We will see. Lots involved, I imagine, with the whole process.

I'm a bit concerned about sending her so far away, I am in CA.

That is one LONG trip, and I have no idea how it works.

I hesitate because of this, I suppose if I actually saw the conditions of where she is currently it might prompt me to go for it................it seems awfully stressful to put her through unless it's absolutely necessary.

Would a donation to MECATS help them?  If they need help, the cost of sending her overseas may be enough to help them relieve their financial pressures.
