Venison and Chronic Wasting disease

For those who feed venison, I'm not sure it is very safe for cats.

Apparently there has been an outbreak of Chronic Wasting disease in deer.

Although rare, this disease can pass to cats eating contaminated meat.  The problem is death does not occur until 4 years or more after eating the infected meat.  Although cats can get mad cow disease, since it has mostly been eliminated from the US, it is not as much of a problem as infected deer meat.

Well, I wish I had seen this before. I just bought a twenty four 3 oz. can case of Nature's Variety Instinct Venison. Ugh

Update: NVI claims they only use herds of deer that are certified free of chronic wasting disease. I will research more into it.
