Hey everyone! So, my 7 months old kitten is to be spayed today. The vet told me to stop feeding her 12 hours before the operation which I did. I was just at the vet right now after exactly 13 hours of the last time I fed her, and now the vet is telling me that she'll keep her and do the operation at 1 PM which is 3 hours from now. That will be 16 hours of fasting and then of course the operation itself and waking up from anesthesia. That'll make up over 17 hours of not eating. Should I be worried about fatty liver disease caused by her not eating for so long? How long does it take anyway for a cat to get fatty liver from not eating?

My 13 WEEK old kitten was spayed Friday. She went almost 20 hours from her last meal to getting home and was ok. Even after not having much of any appetite for a few days after, she's gotten back to normal and doing well. Pin (my male) was neutered almost 2 months ago at 7 months old and didn't go quite as long as Sally but still a good 17-18 hours and was fine, though he actually was ravenous by the time he got home unlike Sally.

I'm sure your baby will be fine. :) It's around the 3 day mark that you really need to become concerned and it's a bigger problem with obese cats than one of a healthier weight.
