Hello, I am new to this site, and the forum. We have something of a stray problem I am trying to correct. One of the strays had a litter of four kittens, and so far two have died. I think there may have been some in-breeding involved. Anyway, of the two that are left one is thriving. However, the other one has some serious eye issues. I can't afford to get him to a vet, and until I can find a rescue group to take the family I am trying to help this kitten. Both of his eyes are infected and swollen. I try to use warm water on them several times a day. I have tried epsom salt and warm water, and tonight I tried lukewarm tea. When I was cleaning his eyes something came out that was jelly-like in substance and kind of big (considering Tippy is probably 5 weeks old). There was a little bit of pus.  Does anyone have any idea what that could have been? Other than his eyes, he has a healthy appetite and runs around, even trying to figure out the litter box. I just don't want to have to bury another fur-baby.

Well thank you for trying to take care of this poor kitty family! The poor little guy with the eye problems probably does need some medical attention though. Maybe your local shelter or rescue could help you get him some antibiotics? As far as what exactly came out of his eye, are you sure it didn't rupture? Or maybe there was a foreign object in the eye that was encapsulated? Either way, I would try to get him some help if at all possible. Good luck with your babies :)

I agree with @kittytech27  , this little one needs to see a vet ASAP to look at those eyes and to determine if there is an eye to be saved there where the jelly like substance came out.   Have you tried contacting any local vets to see if they might examine this kitten without charge given the circumstances?

You are doing so much for this momma cat and her babies and I really hope you find a rescue centre and then home for the remaining family.  Thank you for doing everything you can.  It has to be so hard when you can not save them all and esp' when they are so little.

It sounds like a bad eye infection. Maybe you can go to a vet, explain the story, and hope they can help you without it costing anything. Maybe they can even help you find a family for the cats. I'm quite sure that if pre-boiled water on a soft cloth to clean his eyes regurarly doesn't help, he will need some ointment. You can also try asking an animal shelter nearby for help with the family, but if the kitten doesn't get help and it does get worse, he might go blind.

Also, let me also say that I think it's amazing you are trying to help stray cats like this. You are a very gentle and warm person, keep doing what you are doing! And I hope you can find someone to help the kitten so he, and his family can live long happy and healthy lives. Keep us updated!
