I have a 5 month old semi-feral kitty I just got last Friday. She was spayed on 10/7 (9 days ago). She's eating and drinking normally, active, etc. I'm a first time cat owner so I want to make sure everything is going well and this level of redness is normal.

It's not red around the incision, just looks like the incision itself is red. Feel it and see if it is hot, that is one sign of infection, but as long as there isn't any yellow or green drainage it shouldn't be infected. The 'lump' is normal, they almost always have swelling. It looks pretty normal! Good luck! PS they ALWAYS look nasty for a while, it just gives us all one more thing to worry about!

My only concern is that the incision doesn't appear to be fully closed. At 9 days post-op her incision should be completely closed and healed up.

I would definitely be taking the kitty back for a check up. The incision site should be pretty much healed after 9 days. The good news, at least from what I can see in the pic, is it doesn't look infected.

Thanks everyone. I'm definitely going to take her back. She's been licking at when I'm not home (no ecollar) but I try to stop her when I catch her in the act.
