Ok so we welcomed Atreyu(white kitty in profile pic) into our family about a month ago and he and our other cat Zelda(The grey one) have finally been getting along and play and cuddle.
But I've noticed that Zelda has taken to obsessively grooming Atreyu, even to the point where he gets mega annoyed and she will follow him. It does sometimes cause hissing and swatting.
We just got rid of a minor flea infestation, the cats are completely flea free and I can tell if there are more(there aren't) because they go after me first.(Its happend since I was a kid, its like im a giant magnet for fleas and mosquitoes )

I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen, or whats causing it. Atreyu is getting used to it but I don't think licking herself and another cat can be too healthy like getting hairballs.

if you need some background on Zelda, we don't have much but I can tell her story and what we do know of Atreyu's. They were both rescues

Both are indoor, healthy, and have lots of toys.

Well, that's intriguing.  I can only guess at what's going on in Zelda's head.  Perhaps she had a litter of kittens taken away from her when they were fairly young and now there's an underlying anxiety that has kicked in along with maternal instinct, making her obsessively maternal.  Or maybe it's a symptom of OCD (even kitties can fall victim to obsessive-compulsive behavior).  I did see this once before in a brother/sister pair of kittens.  The sister would chase him down, pin him, then subject him to a lengthy grooming session.  This would happen repeatedly, he would protest and escape, then eventually surrender when sister kitten refused to relent.  They were the last kittens left in a rescued litter and I almost want to say it was a self-soothing behavior for her- her way of destressing.

You might want to discuss this with your vet, s/he could prescribe an antidepressant (for OCD), if this behavior continues.  I hope someone else will add their thoughts or insight.

The kitten thing may be what happened, The night we got her we were teaching my little cousin how to fish at the local park. Out of no where a car drove up, opened the door, dropped her out, and then sped away. She was so scared and confused, but I was able to lure her over with some of the bacon that I was using for bait. We noticed that she was lactating when we got home, but she dried up a two- three weeks later.

It makes me so angry that people regularly drop off their animals there especially cats, and the city wont do anything about it because here they are considered "wild animals" but the animal shelter run by the city will round up the cats hold them for a few days and then put them to sleep. Its hard to find the shelter when you want to adopt because its about 30min away out in the sticks of another town. Its also perfectly legal to run them over for fun, which a lot of ass hats do here.

This is why I prefer cats to people!  When cats are "evil", they're just trying to get their needs met; when people are evil, they're well and truly evil

Zelda is such a lucky girl to have found you!  I hope she calms down soon, but keep us updated regardless.  I'd like to know how Zelda and Atreyu are getting on
