Good morning everyone :wavey: :D

I thought today's question should be an interesting one ;)
So, it's going to be all about The Cat Site.

How did you discover TCS ? What made you join ? What do like best about TCS ?

When George went missing I split my time between hunting for him and looking up the best way to relocate a lost cat. I found TCS that way.

I never found George and I still have no idea what happened to him, but TCS was one of the positive things that came out of that loss.

oh Canada~
I was scouring rescues for a new friend to add to our family and in that time (from last November to this March), I was researching all I could. A lot of Google results brought me here! So it had to be good!
I signed up in February anticipating posting about our new cat, but the first cat we picked out (an ex-feral found in a colony in my hometown), the foster family decided to keep - and they still have her now, so I went back on the hunt. In March, we found little Kismet and I think that's when I started actually posting.

I stuck around because the atmosphere is mature, the other users are responsible and full of knowledge to impart on crazy-cat-people-in-training. There's a real sense of community and openness, which is great and rare to see on the internet.

I had adopted my first cat ever (never had a cat, didn't have friends that had a cat)

And I came here to learn more. I did a google search on cat forums. I did sign up on a few different cat forums, but this one is the only one that stuck with me. It was mostly the lack of "Cat speak" here. It drove me nuts that other sites pretended it was their cats doing the chatting, lol.

It was also how patient members are here at answering my silly questions as I learned.

I joined TCS because of the supposed shutdown of the community features at Catster.com earlier this year. The new owners of Catster, Say Media, eventually decided to keep the community features but then the web site started having horrible "fleas": lots of error messages trying to post in the forums, server issues, DNS attacks, account issues, etc. It looks like Catster has changed owners, it's now i-5 Publishing. However the fleas remain
Are there any other former Catster members here on TCS? Can you still log into your account and post in the forums and groups? It takes several attempts for me to log in but then I keep getting the log in page every time I click on a link to anything
I've contacted Catster twice for help but I have not received a response

I don't really remember.  I think it was doing an internet search when we got our first cat, Casper.  I had general questions about cat care as it was the first time I had one that was my own.

I joined about 1-1/2 years ago when we took in four elder cats from our friend who died of cancer.  We already had three cats, and I was completely overwhelmed with more than doubling the size of our cat herd, and taking care of elder cats who had combinations of IBD, kidney disease, FHV, and old age.  I got lots of support, friendly advice and great suggestions here.  And I found a community of like-minded people I really enjoy.  Besides, where else can I post endlessly with my CCP's (Cute Cat Pictures)?

We had just brought Mooch and Noodles home a couple days before.  Mooch had runny stools; as my husband's white t-shirt found out....  So I started searching the internet, found TCS, and learned that we'd changed their food too quickly.  It's been almost 9 1/2 years now!!
See my little slogan in my siggy.

I found TCS when Nel had really bad ulcers on her mouth. Joined in July of this year. I very much like the kind, helpful community.

through an internet search for cat forums. i tried another one, but found many of the members to be quite judgemental and very "vocal" about it (in not very pleasant ways).  so i moved on and tried TCS, and have been enjoying this site and this community since february.

i joined because i love cats, love sharing my experience with loving and caring for mine, and value the experience that other members share. i'm learning more about cats and everything about them here, and that helps me to be an even better cat parent.

i don't think i can choose just one thing i like best about TCS. one of the things i love about TCS is that this is a very friendly community. there are so many members, all with their own experiences to share. there are so many cat related articles to read and learn from too. and i enjoy things like the questions of the day and the games too. i'm always able to get my fill of cat photos at TCS -- i gotta look at cat photos! and even though we've never met "in the flesh", i've grown to care about many members and their cats very much. then there's the product reviews, cat photo themed contests and etc. -- i enjoy those too! i truly look forward to the time i'm able to spend at TCS, and find it relaxing and always interesting.

I was looking at cat food sites and stumbled across this. There were a lot of intelligent conversations going on and it was something I wanted to be a part of.

I don't remember how I found TCS but I'm glad I did. No need to look anywhere else for friends or information. One of my best finds ever.

I found it while looking around the internet for help with a chronically ill kitty.  I had been doing the vet hopping thing and there were hospitalizations and an expensive emergency visit along the way.  I was getting desperate about continuing with the expensive vet bills and no diagnoses or resolution.

I stumbled across TCS when we rescued Ruben. He wasn't a very well boy. Each time I googled for solutions it led me here so I signed up and have never looked back. I love the friendliness the sense of community. Poor Ruben has since passed away from intestinal lymphoma and I found great comfort here from my cat friends. I love hanging out in the lounge and talking about food, exercising and dieting. The exercise and dieting comes after the food!!!;)

I joined TCS when I had my new cat Baby Snow. I really had no idea on how to introduce a new cat to the prince of the family without getting jealous.

I searched and googled the proper way on how introductions were made and luckily I came to this site. I registered and keeps on coming back to get advises.

I loved TCS eversince. This is where I belong. I love the people who shares their knowledge. The people who saves and rescues ferrals, people who unconditionaly love their pet cats, people who just love cats so much! Sometimes makes me cry of some of the sad stories, makes my heart melt and delighted for inspirational stories and overall I am Happy and Very Satisfied being part of this site. You all inspire me to be more responsible kitty mommy. And I know, there's a reason why I got here.

@betsygee  asked me elsewhere about what got me to TCS, or rather what got TCS to be, and I figured this is a good thread for the reply. I hope it's ok, since this is no longer the question of the day

18 years or so ago, I was a young officer in the Israeli Defense Forces, living in Tel Aviv with my boyfriend/fiance. He kept saying he didn't really like cats, so we didn't have any at the time (although I've always had cats since I was a child and had "my" cat at my Mom's house). One day, he went out for a walk and came back with a box. In it were five tiny kittens. He rescued them from some kids who found them and were close to abusing them.

We fostered the little ones and tried finding them homes. We found homes for all but one, so we ended up keeping her. We called her Mishmish.

I now suspect Mishmish wasn't entirely domestic. We do have some cross-breeding with actual wild cats here (not feral, but wild), and both her markings and her temperament lead me to believe there was something wild there. She was always suspicious of people and other cats, and would quickly become aggressive. Still, she was out cherished Mishmish (she crossed the bridge over a year ago).

The challenges of raising her brought me to do a lot of research about cats and specifically cat behavior. These were early internet days, but Amazon was already in operation and I ordered literally dozens of books. I did a LOT of reading about everything related to cats and developed an expertise of some kind. I also joined the Israeli Cat Welfare Society (the only cat-only organization at the time, which no longer exists) and volunteered there for a while, working with cats and cat people and gaining more expertise.

I started a website in Hebrew about cats and it was hugely successful locally. I was interviewed a lot and spoke for cats in various media outlets. The site became so large, I realized at some point there wasn't actually anything in English as extensive as my site (this was almost 15 years ago). I decided this was what I wanted to do for a living and with the huge .com bubble that was growing at the time, this seemed like a potentially lucrative venue. It took me over a year to leave the military and launch TCS. By the time that happened, the .com bubble had already burst, so I never became a millionaire
. In fact, financially speaking, leaving the military probably wasn't a good move, but I'm really happy with the choice I made. I now work solely on TCS and I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to work on such an awesome topic and with such wonderful people!

I myself joined an international forum - this here, in much to see the american ads.  To get an idea what perhaps to import and resell in Sweden.

I was also at that time an active participant in several swedish and polish cat  forums.  Host and moderator in one major Swedish forum (which died off since than, now revived as a strictly advertising forum).

These plans to see the american ads become nil - the google and internet "niceties"  are killingthemselves and the market of advertising from other countries.   The ads which I do actually see here are SWEDISH ads.  Connected with my googling and visiting sites I do otherwise.

But I managed to switch off the ad function, so they dont bother nor irritate me here any longer.

But I become stuck, me too.   :)     This is a too good a forum, friendly.   Knowleable, interested  people.   And cats. And cats.  Those whom cant speak for themselves, they gets here help from those whom wants to help them, whom are willing to speak for them.

As Im was burning for the homeless cats and ferales, and ways to help them and foster them, I was much on the Strays and Ferale forum, helping as good I could.  And the moms from there appeared also on the Pregnant and kitten forum.  So I tried to help them my protegées there too.

And so I was approached and asked to be an Advisor for Pregnant & kittens, and Strays & Ferales....   And so Im am still here now several years, and over 8000 posts later...

But not longer so very active in the swedish and polish forums..   Although I still do patrol them off occasionally.

Thanks for sharing the story!  I, and I'm sure many others here, are very happy you decided to leave the military and start TCS!!
