I have a sweet little Cornish Rex kitty who weighs about 8.5 pounds. I feed her both dry and canned food each day. The canned food is a very small amount twice a day - about half a tablespoon morning and evening. Thus, getting through a 3 oz can takes a long time. I have read one should only store canned food for 2-3 days. In my case, it could last for a week or more. Can I freeze some of it? Does anyone else have this problem?

Why not just feed more canned to get through it quicker? Canned is better for kitty since it has lots of moisture in it, keeping kitty hydrated and less likely to develop urinary problems that often start as a result of dehydration. (From eating a mostly/all kibble diet) Cats have a low thirst drive and are built to get their main "water intake" through the food they eat.

Though to answer your question, you could use mini chocolate molds or even ice cube trays to freeze small amounts of canned and just thaw them when needed. But for me pesonally that seems too time consuming. Lol!

I agree, the more wet, the better.

You can freeze it. I've only done this once when we were going away for the weekend and wanted them to work gradually through their wet food, but it does work and it is still well hydrated and edible. If you need to refrigerate it, make sure it's well sealed. When we use 13oz cans, it takes considerably longer to work through them so I only take it out of the fridge to serve, and then it gets sealed and goes back into the fridge. I add water to my cats' food, but only once it's out on the platter. I would be hesitant to add any extra water to let it sit in the can or container.

Agree with the other two posters - canned food is much better for your cat's health than dry food. Is there a reason why you only feed a spoonful of canned food a day?

You can transfer the canned food to a plastic or glass container and store in the fridge. The lining of some cans can eventually react with the food and some people feel that  the result can be harmful to cats. Personally, I've kept a 3oz  can of food in the fridge for as long as a week (I only feed a small spoonful to one of my cats as a bedtime snack. I feed the cats raw food) and never had a problem with it.

And yes, you can freeze canned food. Silicone ice cube trays work best since you can pop out the frozen cubes and put into a baggie for easier storage. Thaw a cube in the fridge for a few hours before serving.

No because you are not feeding enough canned and feeding too much dry.
