Does your local shelter not allow black cat adoptions during the month of Halloween? I have not read my small town local paper in ages, but they usually post a notice every year about not allowing black cat adoptions during the month of October. In fact, they used to not allow the adoption of solid white cats during October either. They are still afraid of the cats being used in Satanic rituals, which is kind of silly. I had asked a shelter worker about this one time.

I think that's common here as well. I don't think it's so much Satanic rituals as it is people being abusive and cruel. We have one pet shop here that takes in litters, including overflow from rescues and sells the kitties at a ridiculous profit and they don't sell black kitties in October either. I think the rescues will allow someone to pick out a black kitty, do the paperwork etc but they can't actually take the kitty until Nov 1.
