We have been weaning her off of prednisone, five mgs at a time for a two week period, in-between decreasing doses.
Last week when she went in for a check up on Monday to see how she was doing on the fifteen mgs she had been on for 10 days, and our vet saw the pink starting to form on her gums.
She decided to leave her at fifteen mgs and recheck her Friday and when she did, everything looked the same-the inflammation had not gotten worse and had not spread.
So she decided it was safe to go ahead and lower her another five mgs., down to ten mgs., and recheck on Monday.
Our vet is a really good vet and we have been with her for twelve years.
She has taken care of Ali since she was a baby when we first got her.
She took care of our old cat, Fuzzy, who died at the age of fourteen from feline cancer.
We trust her.
Alis gum are more inflamed today and we have taken her off of any dry food at all as it hurts her to eat it.
We see our vet Monday morning and we have pain meds. for Ali if she shows signs of being in pain and she will let us know if she is in pain.
We know what signs to look for.
I am sure she will be join back on a higher dose of prednisone on Monday and hopefully she will be able to stay on it for a long time.
Hoping and praying we are able to stop this from progressing again.
