Hello Everyone,
Today i came home and was jogging through my backyard when i heard something to my right i looked over and saw a beautiful black mama cat with 3 or kittens. They ran to the neighbors yard.(well the mother and 1 baby got away to the neighbors yard.) I saw 2 but couldve been 3 in my shed still. So i went inside and got them some wet and dry food. I put it in the shed in a nice quiet hidden place. Waited a few minutes the mother came back and guarded her babies while they ate.
The mother hissed at me at first but when i brought the food she stopped. The babies run and hiss at me.
How can i get them to be comfortable around me?? I want to help them as much as i can.
The mother cat seemed to trust me more because one of my cats( a boy) got out and ran up to her they hissed at eachother and i picked up my boy cat. Which i think the mama appreciated. Because then she stopped running from me. But like i said they wont let me close enough to check them out for injuries and other things.
Any tips would be very nice!! THANKS!!

I'm sorry to say it's going to be impossible to get close to the kittens with mom standing guard, warning them to stay away from you.  Your best bet is to set a trap or traps in your shed, bring the kittens inside for socialization and get mama to the vet for TNR.  If the kittens are on solids, they're most likely old enough to be separated from mom.  She can be released near your shed once you're certain she's healing nicely from the spay surgery.  My local rescue keeps feral females for observation three days following their surgery.

Best wishes!

The moma doesnt sounds real semi-ferale.  My guess she is a dumped home girl who managed to survive (and becomed shy during this journey).

Or at least, she met friendly people earlier.

Of course she is shy.  And she is protective of her kittens.  Like even quite a few home girls are.

So trapping as skissed above  is an alternative.  But after a few days you perhaps see some others alternatives too.   It depends also, if you do see any possibilities for fostering and adoption of adult cats.   I suppose you will find fostering and adoptions of the kittens easier.   If you nor shelters and rescue groups nearby dont have such possibilities, then TNR is the solution.

I, or other forumites will surely write more later on, during the day.

Good luck!  @KittyKittenMeow

Yes, i found mama cat again today. I got a good look at her. She is younger than a year. Id say about 8 months. Her kittens were not with her today. I fed mama cat and she didnt run. Im hoping if i keep feeding her she will learn to trust me. And lead me to the kittens now. I foster kittens and so do some of my friends. Im sure i could get them homes. Just need mama to trust me.
