Happy Thursday everyone :wavey: ;)

Today's question is all about your first name

Do you know the meaning of your name ? Do people ever pronounce it wrong ?

My name is Gemma :D

Pronounced with a hard G - JEM- AH

I do occasionally get people trying to pronounce it with a soft G, like Emma with a G stuck in front. Which I really dislike :( I think it sounds stupid.

My name means "gem, precious stone"

People brutalize my name all the time.  One friend even said that it was a deal killer when on a date with me (it's true).  My name is Suzanne, yet people come up with Susan or Susannah out of it.  Many think it isn't a big deal until I start playing with their name while maintaining a completely serious face.  Went out with a guy once, we'll call him John.  Right off the bat I could tell we weren't a match, but whatever, meet a friend ya know?  But he could NOT stop calling me Susan, even after a thorough warning from a mutual friend that it was such a deal breaker for me.  So, after a while I was calling him Josh, then James...he actually got offended, "My name isn't James, Susan."  Really dude?

Forgot to add, my name means "lily."

My name is Rhea. Its pronounce REE-ə. In latin the meaning of Rhea is Mother of Gods. I am a Titan, and I am the wife of Cronus and I am the mother of Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Hera and Hestia. Which Im happy to know. :)

And a proud poop scopper of my babies Ngeew and Snowcat. :)

oh Canada~
Michelle - one who is like/close to/a gift from God (feminine version of Michael). I doubt my parents went for that meaning since they aren't at all religious. It's pretty hard for most people to say wrong.

I have variants of it that my family calls me (often because it works easier on the accent), like my paternal grandmother calls me Masao, my maternal grandmother calls me Misieu, which I think is the most common on my mom's side of the family where the accent is thicker, my mom chopped it in half and calls me Sieu (would be like my friends calling me Shell/Chelle).

This made me lol. Everyone in the office just looked over at me

My parents literally picked the most common name of that time period. That was their plan lol

Jennifer - "White enchantress" or "Fair One"

I get "Jenna", "Gwen", "Janice", "Julie", "Jade" "Jane" even "Jenner" once? Whatever lol. It doesn't bother me. The only time I correct people is when they actually call me Jennifer. Umm, Just "Jen" please

My name is plain as day. Alyssa. Not Alysha or Alicia or Eliza. UH - LYSS - AH. People almost always get it wrong but I think my biggest pet peeve about it is when people mistakenly call me Melissa.

My mother named me after her favorite flower, the Alyssum.

I am the only girl so my Mom said she let my Dad name me. My Dad always said he named me after an old gitfriend! My brother when he was a baby couldn't say it so he called me Carga. That nickname stuck and I hated it. I have had 2 bosses with thick boston accents and it drove me nuts when they pronounced the name because they did not pronounce the r and instead of pronouncing car they said cola

Not the soft drink but the other way of pronouncing the o.

Laurie is pretty difficult to mispronounce, however, spelling it is another story.  There's a lot of ways, most common being Lori. Or, I'll get people using "Laura" instead - which is just NOT my name!

At Starbucks, I went to using "Elle" because so many people couldn't get it right and that's short and sweet.  But it still a problem. I have to say "Elle like the letter L" for them to understand.

Funny.

My name is Laura, but no one in Japan can pronounce it.

I get called Rola, Rora or Roller.

I know I should not laugh at that, but...

It's a long standing joke around here.

Mr Husband speaks fluent English, but even he has trouble with L and R. I tease him about it all the time. I'll send him text messages saying "Where L you? What L you doing?"

Gemma is my favorite name for a girl! I first heard it when I saw the actress Gemma Jones. I also named one of my kitties "Gemma"! (She is a gem to me!)

My name is Barbara. When I was in school, I often got "Barbera" or "Barbra". I detest being called "Barb", "Barbie" or "Babs".  In fact,  I really don't even like "Barbara"!  It comes from Latin, meaning "stranger" or "foreigner" OR "barbarian". The accents of foreigners reminded the Romans of sheep "baaaa-ing", hence the name, and the "barbarian" thing.I hate my name.

At least I ended up with a nice middle name: "Anne". My father named me, BTW; he thought that "Barbara" was a sexy name. Mom wanted to name me "Natasha Suzanne".

I think my post must contain the most quotation marks that I've ever posted!

My name is Judith.
It's a Hebrew name meaning
she will be praised or
woman of Judea.
i go by the name of Judy.
The Hebrew version is Yehudit and a lot of Israelis put the T on the end of Judy which drives me insane as I hate my Hebrew name. Judyt is too close to it
otherwise you can't really get the name wrong.
