I have no luck with a humane trap
Nor a drop trap, the cats won't even come near it.

Anyone here have tried to trap with a carrier (24") Tied to a string that you pull when the cat is Inside eating, how did it go ?

Thanks !

I've used a slightly larger carrier and it worked.  I've also used small crates, which worked better.

It is a lot of work, though.  You have to be very patient because you may have to sit and wait and move v-e-r-y slowly.  I would get someone to sit with you.  For company but also to help run secure the door when you pull it shut.  If the cat throws itself against the door, you'll loose it.  The bigger the carrier or crate, the more likely the cat will go to the back of the crate and not be aware that the door is closing behind it.  This will help.

Thanks a lot for your input. I just ordered a 32" carrier and will try with that one. The cats are used to be fed beside a patio where they have to go down a few steps and the space is very very limited.

Did you quickly pull the string or slowly ? My fear is that the cat is going to panic and push through the door before I come close enough to secure the door.

Yes, that's exactly why I get someone to help.  I pull the string slowly until the door shuts but sometimes the cat does panic.  I try to be quiet but...

Your partner can run up and lock the door shut - he or she needs to be a little closer to the carrier.

I've done it by pulling on the twine slowly while I sneak up on the carrier but its was easier for me when there were two of us.

I think the 32" carrier will be big enough to put the food in the back so it will be easier to hide from the cat.

I can have help, but i'll be waiting just beside the patio (inside). I can't be outside, there is no space for me to wait without them seeing me. The string is going to go through the door (open enough for the string) and I'll be behind the curtain. The cats are used to eat even when there is noise in the appartment.

The carrier is basically going to be about 2 meters away, but I'll have to quietly pull the
String, open patio and hold the carrier. I am thinking maybe having something to hold the door (a broom maybe) at the same I pull the string.

A little tricky but if the carrier is long enough, the cat will be at the far end, so if you pull the door to quietly enough, it should be fine.
