I rescued a sweet little girl from by my father's auto shop as a kitten. My dads shop is surrounded by a field where coyotes raccoons and hawks are seen often. Our guess is that someone dropped her off there to fend for herself. So I took her home after my dad called me and told me she had been there for 3 days. When I got there she came to me crying. I picked her up and felt that she had already started purring. Her pur is very loud and her meow is so small that most didn't think the noise she made really came from her.                                                        I waited for a little over a week to take her to the vet for vaccines to let her get comfortable with her new home first. I asked the vet how old they think she was and they guessed about 3 months old by checking her teeth. And that seemed right on track for her size. But now at almost a year old she has barely grown. Her appetite has always been great and she is very active and smart. She knows how to fetch and has loved doing it since day 3 in her new home. Her meow has gotten louder but still sounds like a kitten. We just got her spayed a few weeks ago and she had no complications and she was such a good patient they felt she didn't need a cone as she left her stitches alone. Everything was going great this past week. She isn't acting different but I noticed that her fur is suddenly very dry feeling and it's getting lighter in color. Not over all like the color is fading but like each hair is getting speckled. She is a tabby and white girl. She is just so young and this is just so sudden that it worries me. I have no idea of what it could be or if I sm just overreacting.

First I'd like to say welcome to TCS!

I have known kitties that by nature are very small.  Perhaps she has a breed in her ancestry that would account for her small size.  As far as the hair colour is concerned.  It can change over time, with the dryness as well though, perhaps you could speak with your vet just to be sure that she is not having a food allergy or other issue.

We'd love to see pictures of her!

Thank you for the warm welcome. I will give my vet a call today. It concerns me since it happened almost overnight. I added some pictures of my cats. I have two more cats that aren't pictured yet. She is the striped one in my profile pic.

She is a Tabby Darling!!! The dryness could be related to her diet. Have you changed anything? I have had many tabby's in my life.I always told them "God painted you while you were in the womb" I know I'm nuts but yes dryness could mean the food is not adequate.need possibly more omega's.HTH

I haven't changed her die. I have a cat with food allergies and his food is very high in omegas to help him with his coat and skin and when I feed him I also give her a large spoonful. I've been doing this since day one and nothing has changed. I also own another tabby. This one will be I think the fourth or fifth tabby I've owned. I've seen their coats get darker or softer or smoother but this time it's different. She almost looks like her entire body was lightly singed and it feels like that too.

My vet was away for a funeral but the office gave her a message and she called me later that day. She said she thinks it might just be from stress as she has no other symptoms. But just to be safe we set up an appointment the day of her return. Everything checked out and her fur is actually seems to be slowly getting darker and smoother again. I am so relieved.
