So I have a little bit of a weird problem here, my new little monster won't eat dry food. From reading through the forums I see that everyone else seems to have the exact opposite problem to me hahaha. Now, before you call me crazy stick with me for a moment! Neither my boyfriend nor I want to feed the kitten a diet high in dry food but, we have a weekend event coming up and both of us will have very conflicting schedules and being able to leave dry food out would certainly ease some of the stress we are looking at. Our plan from the beginning was to feed mainly wet food but have a small amount of dry food always available in case Loki needed to nibble between meals, but from day one he wouldn't touch it. We got Loki from the local spca, so we know he is used to dry food but he absolutely won't go near it, he'll even pick it out of wet food if I try to get sneaky and mix it in. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Oh and as a super bonus round question, are these wet foods okay for cats?

We use these in rotation:
Nutro Max (kitten)
-Chicken & Oceanfish
-Chicken & Liver

Blue buffalo Wilderness(kitten)
-Chicken
-Salmon

Blue buffalo healthy gormet (kitten)
-Chicken

Natures variety (all life stages)
-Salmon
-Pork
-Beef
-Lamb LID
-Duck LID

Wellness (kitten)
-Chicken

Fancy feast (kitten) his least favorite and likely to be dropped soon
-Ocean whitefish
-Turkey

Misc.
- I give him occasional raw scraps from whatever meat meal I am making (I hope that's not bad to do)

We tried other (cheaper...) brands but he just turned his nose up at it, my cat has expensive taste hahahaha.

EDIT: As for the dry food we have tried Iams, Command (the brand they used at the spca), Blue buffalo kitten, and Fancy Feast dry. We tried them on their own, powdered and rehydrated, mixed with water, and mixed with wet food. None of it worked :(

Wow , if your kitten likes all those brands of wet food . You are darn lucky ..

My cats are  super picky about eating wet food . They will only eat one brand at a time . Currently it is Iams Pate ..

If you want your little one to eat some dry food try something like Iams kitten formula .. My cats love all the Iams kibble . My cats like their can food watered down quite a bit so they have to eat one meal of  kibble as well  to get the proper nutrition ..

Iams was actually my first thought when Loki wouldn't eat dry food, great minds think alike hahaha! We have a bag sitting around for the feral cats I can't help but feed, but Loki wants nothing to do with it. I should have known naming him after a prince would make him insist on being fed like one...

A programmable timed feeder will work to give your cat canned food while you are away
Just fill how every many compartments you want with canned food, set the timer, and go about your day without worry
I've used the PetSafe 5 compartment feeder in the past and works well. You can buy feeders with just 2 compartments if that's all you need. I don't recommend the PetSafe 2 compartment feeder. It's very noisy (constant loud ticking noise that doesn't stop unti lthe battery is taken out), cats can easily pry off the lid to get to the food, the manual timer dial can only be set in approximate 2 hour increments, and the battery is impossible to remove without the aid of scissors or a blunt knife.

Maybe your cat would like freeze dried raw instead of regular dry food. Freeze dried raw is crunchy like dry food but a whole lot healthier. If the freeze dried raw is ony for a couple of temporary meals or treats, then it's fine to feed dry. You can leave a bowl of the freeze dried raw out (and remember to throw anythng leftover at the end of the day) or use a timed feeder. Stella and Chywe's is a good brand that many cats like.

Any of the canned fodos you listed are fine to feed
Whatever brand your cat likes is the most important.

Oh I can leave out wet food all day like that? Score! I thought that leaving 2 or 3 cans out would make them all manky and bad for the cat, the thought of a timed feeder never even crossed my mind with wet food. Thank you!

You would need to put ice packs under the food to keep it fresh. I think most timed feeders have a place for ice.
