This is a project I did w/ the help of my parents last weekend. (after doing that, & working all week, I spent time relaxing this past weekend, so am just now getting around to posting.)  I thought I'd share.

...And, now here's some of Angle in the process! I told him w/ his cat tree against the book shelf, he had a kitty jungle gym!
Here he is up on the couch before we went to bed. (Thank goodness, my kitchen was long enough to move the chair & couch in there while we painted! I just had to slide it over to get in the 'fridge).

My happy place.
Oooh I love your floor, it looks amazing and the paint looks like it has covered really well. I agree it has a really cosy cottage feel now especially with that huge rug. I really like the big blue glass vase in the pic where Angel is looking out the door. Well done you!

That looks so great! It sure brightens up the room!!!!

I don't know about the rest of Canada, but in Manitoba where I live you can't undertake such renovations in a rental unit.  You might be able to get permission to paint it, but if you move you have to return it to the land apartment white.

Thanks!  I got the big vase at the same furniture store that I got my new furniture. If you spent a certain amount, you got a $100.00 gift card for the store. I went in a few months ago when they were having a 50% off sale, so I got it for about $54.00, I think it was!  (sense 100.00 wasn't going to buy any more furniture, I used it on an accessory piece!) ...& have a little left!

Natalie, I live in an older house that was turned into (2)  an upstairs, & downstairs apartment. I'm upstairs. My landlord doesn't really do any updates. In fact, he just had the house washed & painted last month, & it hadn't even been pressure washed in over 12 years! SO, anything I do is an improvement! When I first wanted to paint shortly after moving in, I asked his permission, & he said yes, & after seeing it, even gave me some money to cover the paint. Sense then, I don't even bother to ask, because he has liked anything I have done in the past. (& he sure isn't going to do it! He hates to be bothered for anything, not really an ideal landlord)

I have been here for 15 yrs. so if I want any improvements, I really have to do them myself.  I figure doing a few things here & there, when I can afford to, is still cheaper than paying more rent somewhere,

(which I can't afford to do), so I feel like as long as I have been here, & will probably be here, I want to make it as nice as I can, as long as I can, & it doesn't cost to much. That carpet HAD to go, besides the ugly blue color, it was years old! Yuck!  Who knows how many people lived here over the years (25, 30+).  I really want to take it up in my room too, but I'm not sure about the condition of the wood beneath, because of what I feel in a couple of places.
